Thoroughbred owner Wang Ruiqing rode his own colt Xin Nian Zhi Huo (Chi) (Chivalry (Aus) to victory in a 1000-meter race in Yulong racecourse Saturday. Starting from gate two, the juvenile was midpack early and was in the fifth heading into the final 400 meters. Passing the furlong pole, the Zhang Mingliang-trained colt burst into the front and claimed a narrow victory for Ruiqing. It was the first win for Ruiqing in a Thoroughbred Flat race.

A jubilant Wang replied after the race, “I started my professional jockey training when most jockeys reach their retirement age..Seven years of hard work is the witness of my horseracing dream. My gratitude goes to Yulong Jockey Club, to my mentor Zhang Mingliang and to all my friends and family for their unwavering support and understanding.”

As a veteran pigeon racing owner, Wang developed a passionate interest in horses around seven years ago. He purchased a bay foal named Hui Tong Tian Xia (Chi) who later became dual China Horse of Year (2018 – 2019). Ruiqing began his own jockey training while working his stable star. Two years' of devotion earned him a Junior Rider license from International Racing Academy in 2018.

Ruiqing, who rides regularly in the morning, currently has 28 starts under his belt.
