Doomben plays host to eight metropolitan races this Wednesday. For a midweek program, the fields are extremely competitive, with a number of nice two-year-old trial stars making their racing debuts, while horses that have featured in black-type races throughout the Brisbane Winter Carnival come right back in grade. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 10m for the entire course, while racing is scheduled to get underway at 12:33pm AEST.

Best Bet at Doomben – Echo Hunter

Speaking of two-year-old trial stars, Echo Hunter was one of those. While the filly by Denman didn’t break the clock by any means, the way she won her first and only trial at Doomben on June 7 was very encouraging. The Rob Heathcote-trained galloper was wide throughout and seemingly under pressure a fair way out, but to her credit she boxed on and came again to win it in pretty nice fashion when it is all said and done. Leah Kilner rode her on that occasion and she has stuck solid for race day, with her 2kg claim allowing the filly to race with just 55kg on her back. Barrier 11 is a slight query as to where she gets to in the run, but everything she did at the trials points to a forward showing on debut.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silk #2 Echo Hunter (11)

2yo Filly | T: Rob Heathcote | J: Leah Kilner (a2)(57kg)

Next Best at Doomben – Corfe Castle

We are sticking with the two-year-olds on Wednesday, with the colts and geldings set to go around in race two. Corfe Castle looks to bring the right form, despite being beaten in a maiden on the synthetic track at the Sunshine Coast on debut. After being well backed to win that race, the Toby & Trent Edmonds-trained son of Better Than Ready wasn’t able to reel in leader Johnny Rocker, who franked that form by again leading all of the way to win Saturday’s Listed Oxlade Stakes at Eagle Farm. From barrier seven, Robbie Fradd should nearly be able to get into the one-one aboard this colt and he should prove too good.

Next Best

Race 2 – Silk #2 Corfe Castle (7)

2yo Colt | T: Toby & Trent Edmonds | J: Robbie Fradd (57kg)

Best Value at Doomben – Whozyadeeler

After winning his first two starts by a space, Whozyadeeler was spruiked as a Stradbroke Handicap prospect, but he’s not been able to recapture that form. The now-five-year-old gelding ran third first-up in Saturday grade behind the promising Arentee in a race which has proven to be a strong form reference with multiple subsequent winners coming out of it. While this Lee Freedman-trained gelding didn’t win his next start, he looked to be well on his way, with a fast-finishing fourth behind Super Gorgeous over 1200m at this track a fortnight ago. Now out to 1350m and third-up, the son of Dundeel is going to get the favours to aid his winning chances. James Orman can get this talented galloper home in the penultimate.

Best Value

Race 7 – Silk #6 Whozyadeeler (10)

5yo Gelding | T: Lee Freedman | J: James Orman (56.5kg)
