A Friday evening race meeting will be contested at the Sunshine Coast’s Corbould Park this week, with seven races scheduled. HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst has done the form for the meeting and brings you his bets bets and quaddie numbers. We are back racing on a Good 4, while the rail is out 9m for the entire course. The first race of the afternoon is scheduled to run at 3:04pm AEST.

Best Bet at Sunshine Coast – Ventura Ocean

Ventura Ocean was one of our best bets on Queensland Oaks Day (June 4) and ran very well to finish third behind Francesco Guardi and Palladas, with the latter lining up in Saturday’s Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich. Prior to that run, the Kris Lees-trained six-year-old finished midfield in The Archer, and that form has stood up very well in some top races in South East Queensland. The son of Raven’s Pass stays in Class 6 company, but the big drop from Saturday metropolitan grade to a Friday night provincial race should be the key difference. The horse does have to lug 60kg and must overcome barrier 11, but the booking of senior rider Ryan Maloney is certainly a positive. He looks to be a class or two better than most of these.

Next Best at Sunshine Coast – I Ponder

Surprisingly, the synthetic-track form has been stacking up reasonably well over the last few months, so we are siding with a horse who has won his last two on the Sunshine Coast Polytrack. I Ponder was only a narrow winner at those two starts, but he’s been finding a way to win regardless, which is the type of horse we like for these tough staying races. The John Symons & Sheila Laxon-trained four-year-old steps up from 2000m to 2200m for the first time on Friday, but being by So You Think out of a Zabeel mare, he should relish the step up in trip. Luke Tarrant has gotten to know the horse well of late, and another soft draw will allow the horse to land in a positive position and be within range in the straight.
