Frankel’s Inspiral Scintillating In The Coronation

Proving that her crown was merely lent, Cheveley Park Stud's Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) burst back on to the scene on Friday to swamp her rivals with awe-inspiring pace to maintain her unbeaten record in Royal Ascot's G1 Coronation S. Forced to miss the 1000 Guineas on which she had held an iron grip throughout the winter courtesy of her G2 May Hill S. and G1 Fillies' Mile successes, the homebred daughter of the 2012 Coronation runner-up Starscope (GB) (Selkirk) was heavily-supported into 15-8 favouritism bidding to end Frankie Dettori's June hex. Giving him another in a long line of frights as she broke sluggishly, she proceeded to race keenly towards the rear and had plenty of rivals still to pass at the top of the straight. Delivering a scintillating sectional between the two and the furlong pole, the Gosdens' star had swooped on Spendarella (Karakontie {Jpn}) there en route to an emphatic 4 3/4-length defeat of the US raider, who held on for the silver medal by a short head from Discoveries (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}).
