Ballarat Turf Club is scheduled to host an eight-part card on the club’s synthetic track on Friday afternoon. HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing form analyst presents his best bets, odds comparison and free quaddie selections for the meeting scheduled to get underway at 1pm AEST.

Best Bet at Ballarat – Heljami

Our best bet of the day comes up in the second leg of the quaddie when the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Heljami steps out over 2200m. The five-yar-old mare is a deadset synthetic specialist having won four times from eight starts and placed on a further two occasions. Three of those four wins have come on the Ballarat synthetic and considering the way she finished off over 1600m last time out, she is sure to appreciate the step back up to 2200m on her preferred surface. From barrier six, look for Harry Coffey to have the Written Tycoon mare settled towards the rear of the field. The pair should be able to build momentum inside the final 600m and with a strong finishing burst, we expect Heljami to finish over the top of her rivals and build on her already impressive record at the track.

Best Bet

Race 6 – Silk #3 Heljami (6)

Next Best at Ballarat – My Boy Birmingham

We were with the Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained My Boy Birmingham when he went down by a half head to Black Bolt a fortnight ago, but we are happy to double down on him when they clash again on Friday. My Boy Birmingham gave his rival a 2kg advantage on that day and considering the narrow margin in defeat, the fact both will carry 62kg this time round, suggest our bloke should be hard to beat. The Unencumbered gelding is yet to miss the top two in five career starts at the track and has three wins to his name in the process. He only gets better as his campaign draws out and considering he is coming here fourth-up and is set to gain a simarly uncontested lead as he did last time out, My Boy Birmingham looks the goods in this. He went around as a $2.60 chance with online bookmakers last time out and we expect a similar price for My Boy Birmingham on Friday.

Next Best

Race 4 – Silk #2 My Boy Birmingham (4)

4yo Gelding | T: Tony & Calvin McEvoy | J: Dean Holland (62kg)

$2.15 with Neds

Best Value at Ballarat – Hunka Hunka Harry

We were with the Daniel Kelly-trained Hunka Hunka Harry when resuming from a spell, but the six-year-old gelding was seemingly in need of the run when struggling off the slow speed over 1100m on the Pakenham synthetic. The Turffontein gelding won when second-up last campaign and has finished second in both of his other two second-up runs in his career. From barrier two, we anticipate Alana Kelly will look to stalk the speed throughout and have this chestnut gelding peeling off the leaders back approaching the home turn. If afforded that luxury, we expect Hunka Hunka Harry will prove too hard to hold out and we look to be getting a nice price to jump into with online betting sites.

Best Value

Race 8 – Silk #8 Hunka Hunka Harry (2)

6yo Gelding | T: David Kelly | J: Alana Kelly (58.5kg)

$31.00 with Unibet
