What Donald Races
Where Donald Racecourse – 990 Jeffcott Rd, Donald VIC 3480
When Sunday, June 26, 2022
First Race 11:45am AEST

Visit Ladbrokes

Ballarat’s turf track is out of action due to wet weather, so Donald Racecourse will instead to host a competitive eight-race card on Sunday. With rain forecast, we look set to be racing on the worse side of a Soft 7, while the rail comes out 2m for the entire circuit. Racing is set to get underway at 11:45am AEST, with the quaddie legs starting at 2:25pm.

Best Bet at Donald: Silk Jacket

Coming off a six-month spell is the Matt Cumani-trained Silk Jacket, and if the five-year-old mare is anywhere near her best, this race is hers for the taking. This daughter of Helmet was racing in stiffer company last campaign than what she faces fresh from a spell. She fires fresh, relishes rain-affected going and boasts a record of 4: 1-1-1 at the 1600m. With Matthew Chadwick on board and claiming 3kg, the chestnut will need to lug just 58kg, which is as massive advantage being a 60-rater in a BM58. Wardy Boy is set to make this a genuinely run mile, so look for Chadwick to have this girl stalking the speed throughout – and, as always at Donald, the closer to the speed, the better. The $4 with online betting sites looks a great price.

Best Bet

Race 4 – Silk #6 Silk Jacket (6)

5yo Mare | T: Matt Cumani | J: Matthew Chadwick (a3) (61kg)

$4 with Unibet

Next Best at Donald: Crackerjack Prince

One of our better bets of the day comes up in the final race as the Archie Alexander-trained Crackerjack Prince resumes from a seven-month spell. The four-year-old strung together consecutive second-place finishes in his only two starts during the spring, both in arguably tougher races than this BM64. Despite drawing barrier 14, he has speed drawn next to him in Mio Sorrento, who will look to cross the field and take up the running, meaning our guy should gain a nice cart across and potentially settle in the one-one. Crackerjack Prince has a record of 3: 1-2-0 when resuming from a spell, and we expect that impressive trend to continue on Sunday.

Next Best

Race 4 – Silk #10 Crackerjack Prince (14)

4yo Gelding | T: Archie Alexander | J: Declan Bates (59kg)

$5.50 with Bet365

Best Value at Donald: Almsgiver

If you rule a line straight through Almsgiver’s last start, where he finished 25 lengths back in last at Ballarat on May 29, his form prior had been exceptional. The four-year-old gelding won three starts back and followed it up with a narrow defeat at Warrnambool on May 5 in a red-hot race where he was the only one of the on-pace gallopers who managed to stick on. From barrier 12, he looks almost certain to settle outside race leader Rolls, and with race fitness on his side and a more than respectable wet track record, the $14 on offer with online bookmakers for Almsgiver is simply too good to pass up.

Best Value

Race 5 – Silk #5 Almsgiver (12)

4yo Gelding | T: Matthew Williams | J: Declan Bates (59kg)

$14 with Palmerbet
