It is Flemington Finals Day this Saturday, and HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing form analyst presents his best bets and free quaddie numbers for the meeting. The track is rated a Soft 6, with the rail returning to the true position for the marquee meeting of the winter racing season at HQ. Racing is set commence at 11:50am AEST.

Winter Championship Final Top Tip – Frankie Pinot

The Listed Winter Championship Final over 1600m is the feature event of the day on Saturday, and we are hoping the Tony & Calvin-trained Frankie Pinot can salute at a nice price. Having taken out the Listed Wangoom Handicap three runs ago, he backed it up with a fourth-placed finished in The Goodwood when finishing two lengths off Lombardo in a hotly run race. Despite finishing fifth at Randwick last time out, Frankie Pinot produce the best last 600m sectional in the race, and a similar effort to those three runs should make him hard to beat here. From barrier 17, Dean Holland will have no other choice but to settle towards the rear, but with plenty of speed engaged, the race looks perfectly set up for Frankie Pinot to finish over the top of his rivals. At $11 with online betting sites, we are willing to get involved.

VRC Sprint Series Top Tip – Savatoxl

Arguably the most highly credentialed runner in the Listed VRC Sprint Series Final is Savatoxl, and we expect the 2021 Goodwood winner can lead his rivals a merry dance in this. The six-year-old gelding was hardly a winning chance in this year’s edition of The Goodwood having blundered the start, but his start prior when nosed out in the D.C. McKay Stakes by Free Of Debt suggests he is in this race right up to his neck. Due to his Group 1 qualities, he’ll need to lug 60.5kg, giving every other runner a 6.5kg weight advantage. He carried 60kg two runs back, so we have no doubt he will be able to see out a strong 1200m. Blaike McDougall will have Savatoxl bounding along out in front and the pair look simply too hard to run down.

Taj Rossi Series Final Top Tip – Kings Consort

There is little hiding the fact we are a big fan of the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Kings Consort, who should appreciate the step up to the mile for the first time in his career. The two-year-old gelding found the 1300m a touch too sharp at Swan Hill on June 10, especially considering the way he finished off over 1400m at Morphettville the start prior. He looks to be a horse who will be a strong miler as a three-year-old, and a race like the Caulfield Guineas might not be out of his reach during the spring. Despite drawing barrier two on Saturday, look for Jye McNeil to have the chestnut settled towards the rear of the field. Armed with a strong finishing burst, Kings Consort looks the one they have to beat.

Best Bet at Flemington – Bella Rouge

Our best bet of the day comes up in the Rivette Series Final as the Chris Waller-trained Bella Rouge searches for a third win in a row. The three-year-old filly managed to win in impressive style at the Flemington 1400m two starts back and backed it up with a smart victory at Rosehill over 1300m last time out. She returns to the 1400m and, from barrier four, draws to do no work under Brett Prebble. With the likes of Brookline and Arranmore engaged, look for Prebble to stalk the speed throughout. With winning form on her side, we expect Bella Rouge to put a field like this away in a couple of strides.

Best Bet

Race 4 – Silk #7 Bella Rouge (4)

3yo Filly | T: Chris Waller | J: Brett Prebble (60kg)

Next Best at Flemington – Cardinal Gem

Grahame Begg opts to back up Cardinal Gem seven days after a drought-breaking victory at Caulfield last weekend, and we think he can go on with the job on Saturday. Prior to his last-start win, he had been narrowly defeated by Jimmy The Bear at Flemington at his previous two starts but had plenty of issues in running, so to say his Caulfield success was overdue is an understatement. The step up to the mile this deep into a preparation is ideal, and considering how consistent he has been and with confidence on his side, this race is well within his grasp. Look for Billy Egan to have the Choisir gelding settled midfield with cover before unleashing a strong finishing burst to put them away.

Best Value at Flemington – Mimi’s Award

Despite going down by 3.5 lengths to Horrifying at Sandown on June 11, the way the Ben & JD Hayes-trained Mimi’s Award finished off over 2400m suggests she will relish the 2600m on Saturday. With Horrifying already off and gone by the time Mimi’s Award knuckled down, the Shamus Award mare showed glimpses of being back to somewhere near her best. On her day, the four-year-old has a turn of foot which can put away most fields within a couple of strides. This edition of the Banjo Patterson Final is nothing special, and as long as Blaike McDougall has her away from the rail at a crucial point, Mimi’s Award looks a great value play with online bookmakers.
