Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 2, 2022 Journalists Share Posted July 2, 2022 What Alice Springs Races Where Pioneer Park Racecourse South, Stuart Hwy, Connellan NT 0870 When Sunday, July 3, 2022 First Race 2:14pm ACST Visit Ladbrokes Pioneer Park will be hosting a five-race card this Sunday and our Northern Territory specialist brings you the race-by-race betting preview with the top tips and best odds available for the big day of racing. First race is set to start at 2:14pm local time. Race 1 (2.44pm) – $17.500 Talice Security Services Class 2 Handicap (1200m) Travanti was a last start winner over 1200m (0-58) on May 29 as a $3.40 favourite and is once again a major contender in a race where the apprentice jockey also claims 3kg. Form was a little up and down in 15 career starts in NSW from 1000-1410m before arriving in the Red Centre where he produced a first up fifth over 1000m (0-62) on April 9. The 5YO gelding then finished second to the handy Yowza over 1100m (0-58) on April 23, so getting the cash a month later was no surprise. Distant Lover, Shoal River and Envy Me are potentially the biggest dangers. Bartolini and Acres Midnight can make it interesting. Best Bet #2 Travanti (3) 5yo Gelding | T: Kevin Lamprecht | J: Ianish Luximon (a3) (58kg) $4.60 with Bet365 Race 2 (3.24pm) – $20,000 Perks 0-58 Handicap (1100m) Me Cabo has had 25 starts in Alice for just two wins since debuting in August 2020, but he has managed to finish second on nine occasions and fourth on four occasions. The 6YO gelding has also impressed at the Tennant Creek Cup meeting in May. A win over 1100m (0-54) in 2021 was followed by a narrow second over 1200m (0-70) this year behind the in-form Valenciano. Me Cabo has posted a second and two thirds in his past three starts to suggest that he can finally taste victory for the first time since June last year. Lisa, Heart Of Red, Ananagram, Harbour Express and Intercontinental could spoil the party. Best Bet #1 Me Cabo (8) 6yo Gelding | T: Greg Connor | J: Jessie Philpot (59kg) $5 with Neds Race 3 (4.04pm) – $20,500 Ladbrokes Odds Boost Exotics 0-76 Handicap (1100m) Miles Prower is a narrow selection in a race where there are at least half a dozen chances. The 5YO gelding started his racing career in the Red Centre in March 2021 and was a first up second in an 1100m maiden before winning a 1200m maiden at his next start. In 14 starts at Pioneer Park from 1100-1400m, Miles Prower’s record stands at 6-3-3. A win over 1200m (0-70) on May 29 was followed by a third behind Desert Lass and Mathematics in open company over 1200m on June 19. He will have to be at his best as Like A Heartbeat, Mathematics, Cyclonite, Glock and Devil’s Temptation are capable of winning. Best Bet #2 Miles Power (3) 5yo Gelding | T: Greg Connor | J: Jessie Philpot (56.5kg) $4.20 with PlayUp Race 4 (4.38pm) – $17,500 Scope Building NT 0-58 Handicap (1400m) Future Dreams has produced consistent form in seven starts since returning from a five month spell February. The 6YO gelding boasts a record of 15-2-2-3 in Alice Springs from 1200-1600m after arriving from NSW via Queensland in April last year. A win over 1200m (0-58) on May 29 was followed by a third over 1400m (0-54) on June 5 albeit by a narrow margin. Future Dreams will also have to contend with a wide gate, so it won’t be easy. Debbonaire Boy was racing well before a last start failure and deserves another chance. Kyd Rock is handy. Morphling, Winter Harbour and Huckleberry can surprise. Best Bet #2 Future Dreams (9) 6yo Gelding | T: Terry Gillett | J: Stan Tsaikos (58.5kg) $4 with Ladbrokes Race 5 (5.15pm) – $20,500 Gallagher Insurance 0-76 Handicap (1600m) Desert Lass never seems to run a bad race in the Alice. In 25 starts since March 2020, the 5YO mare has recorded five wins, seven seconds and four thirds from 1000-2000m. Back from a spell in March, Desert Lass was competitive in four starts at the top level before finishing fourth in the Chief Ministers Cup WFA (1600m) on April 23. She then finished fifth in the Alice Springs Cup in her first start over 2000m on May 1 before returning on June 19 to produce a stirring win over 1200m in open class. Valley Prince is the biggest danger. Zelring can threaten. Just Hang Up and Exonerate will have to be at their very best.
