Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 7, 2022 Journalists Share Posted July 7, 2022 Apprentice jockey Hannah Edgely rode her 50th winner at Cranbourne on Thursday afternoon, saluting aboard the Luke Oliver-trained Spanish Tides. Fittingly, the Benchmark 64 Handicap was a heat of the Rising Stars, which gives apprentice jockeys the chance to race against one another without any senior riders in the race. It has been a quick rise to fame for Edgley, who only started race riding at the start of the 2021/22 season, but she has now ridden in over 280 races while striking at roughly 17%. Edgley told Racing.com post-race that she had set a goal to ride 50 winners by the end of the season, so she was “thrilled” to reach the milestone with three weeks to spare. “It was a goal that I was aiming to get to before the end of the season, so I’m thrilled,” she said. “Hopefully, now we can tick a few more off before the end, but I’m just so happy with how everything is going right now.” Edgley has enjoyed a strong start to the month of July, with three wins coming from her seven rides so far.
