Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 8, 2022 Journalists Share Posted July 8, 2022 What South Grafton Cup Day 2022 Where Grafton Racecourse – 284 Powell St, Grafton NSW 2460 When Sunday, July 10, 2022 First Race 12:15pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes It is South Grafton Cup Day on what is the opening Sunday of the famous Grafton July Carnival. Eight races will be run and won at the Northern Rivers racetrack, with a Heavy 9 track expected. The rail is out 3m for the entire course, and the meeting gets underway at 12:15pm AEST. Read on to see our best bets and quaddie numbers for the day, including our tip in the Cup – which is a qualifier for The Big Dance. South Grafton Cup Best Bet – Wicklow While we aren’t stoked that Chris Waller has half the field in this country cup, we find it pretty hard to go past one of his runners. Wicklow couldn’t have been any more impressive when coming from near last to win at Rosehill Gardens on June 18 over 1500m in Benchmark 78 company. He should take plenty of improvement out of that run now that he is third-up and arguably in weaker grade. The four-year-old drops 3.5kg to be in this on the minimum, while the booking of in-form jockey Brock Ryan bodes well. Wicklow gets all of the favours from barrier six on Sunday. South Grafton Cup Best Bet Race 7 – #12 Wicklow (6) 4yo Gelding | T: Chris Waller | J: Brock Ryan (54kg) $2.45 with Ladbrokes Best Bet at Grafton – Kikau If King Kikau can deliver a similar run to his last-start second at Scone, he should be going very close to winning the opening race of the afternoon. The three-year-old son of Scissor Kick was brave up on the speed over 2200m to box on and run second, just over half a length behind Decadent Tale. Drawn well in barrier four, Andrew Gibbons can go forward once again on this gelding and give them something to chase over the 2200m. This race does look easier. Best Bet Race 1 – #1 King Kikau (4) 2yo Gelding | T: Wayne Wilkes | J: Andrew Gibbons (57.5kg) $4.60 with Neds Next Best at Grafton – Zambrero We can’t believe that Chris Waller’s filly Pretes is favourite in the fifth – she has been absolutely legless in three career starts. Matthew Smith saddles up Zambrero, who hasn’t set the world on fire in three starts either, but the horses that have beaten him home have been smart. Canbya beat him on debut and she just ran fourth in the Rivette Series Final at Flemington on Saturday, while Finepoint and Sword Point are among the horses to beat him home in his subsequent starts. In two trials in June, the son of Stratum Star went well, so we are confident we will see a good enough performance first-up on Sunday. Next Best Race 5 – #9 Zambrero (13) 3yo Gelding | T: Matthew Smith | J: Ashley Morgan (59kg) $3.90 with Palmerbet Best Value at Grafton – Letmeletgo It is a wide-open betting affair to end the afternoon, and although Letmeletgo is the $6 favourite with online bookmakers, it still appears value. The Matthew Dunn-trained four-year-old has won just one race from nine starts, but that came right here at Grafton back in October. The son of Pierro was good last start at Gosford in a tougher race over 1600m, so staying at the mile against weaker opposition could prove a recipe for success. While the wet track isn’t ideal, he has placed twice on soft ground and trialled very well on a Soft 7, so we will have to hope he gets through it on Sunday. Matt McGuren will go forward from the wide alley and have him within striking distance at the business end. Best Value Race 8 – #6 Letmeletgo (12) 4yo Gelding | T: Matthew Dunn | J: Matthew McGuren (60.5kg) $6 with Bet365 Sunday quaddie tips for South Grafton Cup Day 2022 Grafton quadrella selections Sunday, July 10, 2022 3-9 2-4-6-8 2-3-11-12 4-6-11-12 Investment: $128 for 100% More racing tips View the full article
