What Sandown Hillside Races
Where Sandown Racecourse – 591-659 Princes Hwy, Springvale VIC 3171
When Wednesday, July 13, 2022
First Race 12:25pm AEST

Visit Ladbrokes

The Hillside circuit at Sandown Racecourse is the venue for Victorian midweek racing this Wednesday with an eight-race program scheduled. The track is predicted to play at a Soft 7, with the rail out six metres the entire circuit. Race one for the three-year-olds gets us underway at 12:25pm AEST, with the last race of the afternoon, a 1400m Benchmark 78, at 4:30pm.

SANDOWN BEST BET: SIG POSITANO

Sig Positano returns to Hillside after running fourth at the track two starts back when beaten 1.85 lengths. Following that he ran well at Caulfield for a third behind the talented He’s Our Bonneval, and this race will see him super fit now in what could possibly be his last run this campaign for Patrick Payne. He goes well on Soft and Heavy tracks but is starting to be known as a ‘nonny’ in racing terms after failing to win this campaign despite attracting support. We think that’s unfair considering he’s won five of 29 starts, so we are willing to give him one more chance this time in. His best run was at Caulfield when second by a nose, and a repeat of that performance should see him top two in this.

NEXT BEST AT SANDOWN: FERAGO

This gelding was beaten a nostril last start when he flew home over the final 400 metres on a Heavy track. Before that it was a win at Geelong, again on a Heavy surface. We don’t think we will see a Heavy track on Wednesday, but if it does rain, Ferago’s odds will come in even further. Jamie Mott takes the ride for Patrick Ryan, which is a positive because Mott knows the horse well having ridden him well the last three times. Hereforagoodtime for Peter Gelagotis will be the likely favourite and is the one to watch.

SANDOWN VALUE BET: LA VINA

The in-form Lindsey Smith and Alanna Kelly combine with this mare who almost got the money three starts ago at Sandown Lakeside, and that’s the run we are going off. Since then she has just been fair, running a fifth and sixth, but she is two wins from three attempts on Soft ground, which should help her chances in this. She was backed to win last start, which is a good indicator that she is doing everything right. She will have to be on her game, but the double-figure quote at Unibet is attractive.
