Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 15, 2022 Journalists Share Posted July 15, 2022 What Pakenham Races Where Pakenham Racecourse – 420 Nar Nar Goon–Longwarry Rd, Tynong VIC 3813 When Sunday, July 17, 2022 First Race 12:05pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes Pakenham Racecourse is scheduled to host six races over the obstacles on Sunday afternoon for the Mosstrooper Jumps Race Day. The track is rated a Heavy 8 and the rail is out 12m, with the first race set to get underway at 12:05pm AEST. Read on to see our best bets and quaddie picks for the afternoon. Best Bet at Pakenham – Stern Idol Having won by a whopping 27 lengths at Warrnambool on July 3 on a Heavy 10, we anticipate the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Stern Idol will continue his winning ways on Sunday. The five-year-old gelding managed to lead throughout that day and simply never looked like getting run down at any stages. Despite needing to carry 71.5kg following Selim Agbal’s 3kg claim, it is only 3.5kg more than what he carried last time out. With a quiet time of it out in front expected, look for Agbal to build a sizeable lead as the race pans out. $1.80 with online bookmakers may be short for some punters, but in our eyes, it is much better than bank interest. Best Bet Race 3 – #2 Stern Idol (3) 5yo Gelding | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Selim Agbal (a3) (71.5kg) $1.80 with Ladbrokes Next Best at Pakenham – Valac Now with Steven Pateman, the formerly Ben & JD Hayes-trained Valac has always been touted as an above average jumper and we expect him to live up to those expectations in this year’s edition of the Mosstrooper Steeplechase. The obvious concern is the big grey has fallen at his last two starts, but his win three starts back over the 3200m at Pakenham suggests he is in this right up to his neck. From barrier seven, we anticipate Pateman will have his mount positioned in the moving line, so that inside the final 800m, Valac will have clear air for jumping. As long as he jumps cleanly, it is hard to see how his rivals beat Valac considering his potential. Next Best Race 6 – #3 Valac (7) 10yo Gelding | T: Steven Pateman | J: Steven Pateman (67.5kg) $3.60 with Neds Best Value at Pakenham – Hostar We will be looking to make our mark early on Sunday when the Peter Chow-trained Hostar steps out in the opening event. Considering he was beaten just 2.5 lengths by Chains Of Honour at Warrnambool last time out, the fact this son of Host put 13 lengths on his next closest rival in third, it suggests he has more than enough ability to take out a race like this. He looks to make his own luck close to the speed and considering Teofilo Star is likely to make this a genuinely run 3200m event, look for Daniel Small to have this bloke stalking the speed throughout. If Hostar puts in a similar effort to his last start, the $7 on offer from online betting sites looks a suitable price to launch into in the first. Best Value Race 1 – #6 Hostar (9) 7yo Gelding | T: Peter Chow | J: Daniel Small (a3) (69.5kg) $7 with Palmerbet Sunday quaddie tips for Pakenham jumps racing Pakenham quadrella selections Sunday, July 17, 2022 2 1-3 1-2 3-4 Investment: $8 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
