Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 16, 2022 Journalists Share Posted July 16, 2022 'TDN Rising Star' In Italian (GB) (f, 4, Dubawi {Ire}–Florentina {Aus}, by Redoute's Choice {Aus}), ostensibly entered in Saturday's GI Diana S. as a pacemaker for her previously unbeaten and commonly owned stablemate Bleecker Street (Quality Road), took the race by the scruff of the neck, played catch me if you can and at the end of nine furlongs, they flat could not. Kicked straight into the lead by Joel Rosario, the immaculately bred chestnut went hard enough over the fast-playing turf course, covering the opening quarter mile in :22.45 and the half in an otherwise taxing :45.83 while chased by Creative Flair (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Dalika (Ger) (Pastorius {Ger}). Rougir (Fr) (Territories {Ire}) and Bleecker Street lagged in the rear, anticipating that the pace would come back to them. But ultimately it did not. Despite the quick fractions–the six furlongs were posted in 1:09.50, In Italian kicked for home firmly in front and proved not for catching, as perfect-trip Technical Analysis (GB) (Kingman {GB}) gave vain chase. Bleecker Street tasted defeat for the first time in her eight-start career, finishing third, just ahead of Rougir in fourth. The final time of 1:45.06 crushed the previous course record of 1:45.61 set by Criminologist in 2007. In Italian is the 51st worldwide Grade I/Group 1 winner for her hugely successful sire. Lifetime Record: 7-4-2-1. O-Peter Brant; B-Fairway Thoroughbreds; T-Chad Brown.
