What Kensington Races
Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031
When Wednesday, July 20, 2022
First Race 12:50pm AEST

Visit Ladbrokes

HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie tips for Wednesday’s seven-race program on the Kensington track at Randwick. The surface is rated a Heavy 9 and the rail is out 5m for the entire course, so it will be important to take note of how the track is playing if you are betting throughout the afternoon. The first race is scheduled to jump at 12:50pm AEST.

Best Bet at Kensington – Casino Kid

Jan Bowen and Ashley Morgan combine with the consistent Casino Kid, who is coming into this race second-up. The son of Casino Prince relishes racing on wet tracks, with three wins from nine starts on Soft tracks and three runner-up performances from four Heavy-track runs, so he should appreciate the Heavy 9 on Wednesday. First-up, the four-year-old gelding got a long way back on a leader’s track and made up good ground to run fourth behind Conscript and Snowzone over 1100m. Bowen has stepped him up significantly in distance to 1550m on Wednesday, but that should suit him as he has only missed the places once from eight attempts over this distance.

Best Bet

Race 5 – Silk #4 Casino Kid (12)

4yo Gelding | T: Jan Bowen | J: Ashley Morgan (60kg)

Next Best at Kensington – Dame Cartland

Two-year-old filly Dame Cartland is having her first run since February 26, when she tailed right off in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes behind Group 1 winners Fireburn and She’s Extreme. Prior to that, this daughter of Written Tycoon had form around Paris Dior, Queen Of The Ball and Revolutionary Miss, so she should find this 2YO Fillies Maiden a touch easier. Trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, Dame Cartland looks ready to fire first-up following two trial wins at Rosehill and Randwick. It will be James McDonald’s first ride back in Australia since returning from Royal Ascot, so he will be wanting to kick things off on a winning note.

Next Best

Race 1 – Silk #5 Dame Cartland (9)

2yo Filly | T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | J: James McDonald (56kg)

Best Value at Kensington – Nolan

We have had a bit of time for John O’Shea’s two-year-old colt Nolan since his debut second at this track and distance behind the talented Troach. The grey son of Caravaggio finished midfield in his next two outings, before running an unlucky fourth behind Queen Of The Ball in the Group 3 Black Opal at Canberra in his final run of the preparation. O’Shea tipped him out following that performance, which looks to have done him the world of good. In a recent trial victory, Nolan was ridden out by Hugh Bowman and forced to chase Mr Extreme over 1080m, but we liked the way he pinned the ears back and did the donkeywork after being three wide throughout. We are sure he has a nice race in him somewhere, and this looks an ideal place to start.

Best Value

Race 2 – Silk #7 Nolan (16)

2yo Colt | T: John O’Shea | J: Reece Jones (a1.5)(56kg)
