Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 23, 2022 Journalists Share Posted July 23, 2022 What Alice Springs Races Where Pioneer Park Racecourse South, Stuart Hwy, Connellan NT 0870 When Sunday, July 24, 2022 First Race 2:52pm ACST Visit Ladbrokes Pioneer Park will be hosting a five-race card this Sunday and our Northern Territory specialist brings you the race-by-race betting preview with the top tips and best odds available for the big day of racing. First race is set to start at 2:52pm local time. Race 1 (2.52pm) – $20,000 Centre Plumbing 0-64 Handicap (1200m) Fantasy Eagle hasn’t missed a beat since arriving in the Red Centre from NSW. The 5YO gelding has had two starts finishing a close second on each occasion behind the handy Miles Prower over 1200m (0-70) on May 29 and the in-form Zelring over 1400m (0-64) on June 19. Has the advantage of a 3kg claim which will make life easier, but he won’t have a moments rest as there are genuinely five other runners who can win the race. Colhoun and Sedona are good enough to bounce back after finishing out of a place last weekend, Like A Heartbeat is certainly better than average, Frilly Design is in good form, and Future Dreams was victorious last Sunday. Sedona and Future Dreams have 3kg and 4kg claims, respectively. Best Bet #2 Fantasy Eagle (6) 5yo Gelding | T: Will Savage | J: Ianish Luximon (a3) (60.5kg) $4.60 with Bet365 Race 2 (3.22pm) – $17,500 Hygain ‘Release’ 0-54 Handicap (1200m) Travanti was a little up and down when he raced in NSW posting just one win in 15 starts. The 5YO gelding debuted at Pioneer Park in early April and finished fifth behind A Thousand Degrees over 1000m (0-62) before clicking into gear. Travanti then featured at 0-58 level for a second behind Yowza over 1100m in late April and a win over 1200m in late May. On July 3, he finished second behind Bartolini over 1200m (Class 2). City Jet raced well during the Alice Springs Cup Carnival and is a chance despite trailing Zelring in ninth place over 1400m (0-64) on June 19. Harbour Express and Lisa were disappointing last weekend, but 3kg claims may help on this occasion. Don’t treat Distant Lover lightly. Best Bet #2 Travanti (5) 5yo Gelding | T: Kevin Lamprecht | J: Jessie Philpot (59kg) $4 with Neds Race 3 (3.52pm) – $17,500 Ladbrokes Punter Assist 0-58 Handicap (1000m) Liberty Blue had four runs in SA after finishing second behind the impressive Harpuna over 1000m (0-58) on Alice Springs Cup Day on May 1. The 7YO gelding made his Pioneer Park return last Sunday and started as a $2.15 favourite before making it six seconds from nine starts in the Red Centre when he trailed Intercontinental over 1100m (0-54). Liberty Blue also receives a 3kg claim, so surely he will finally post that first win in the Alice. Superior Power and Ananagram finished third and fourth, respectively, behind Intercontinental last weekend and are perhaps the biggest threats. The Stockbroker hasn’t raced since March, but has been placed five times in nine races over 1000m and has a 3kg claim. Best Bet #2 Liberty Blue (3) 7yo Gelding | T: Lisa Whittle | J: Jade Hampson (a3) (56.5kg) $2.50 with PlayUp Race 4 (4.28pm) – $19,500 BT Daley Painting 0-70 Handicap (1400m) Zelring had been competitive in 15 starts in the Alice after arriving from NSW in late 2020 with three wins, three seconds and two thirds. The 5YO gelding is in good form and is aiming for three straight wins. Zelring won over 1400m (0-64) with a 4kg claim on June 19 and then saluted over 1600m (0-76) with a 3kg claim on July 3, and benefits from a 3kg claim again. Radio Room returned from a spell last Sunday and was victorious over 1600m (0-64). Exonerate lines up for his 78th career start and boasts a healthy record over 1400m. Mathematics continues to produce the goods and was second behind Roughly last weekend over 1200m (0-69), but failed at his one and only start over 1400m – a 3kg claim will help. Best Bet #3 Zelring (6) 5yo Gelding | T: Lisa Whittle | J: : Jade Hampson (a3) (59kg) $3.40 with Ladbrokes Race 5 (4.58pm) – $17,500 Alice Springs Brewing Co Class 2 Handicap (1400m) Debbonaire Boy raced in Victoria and SA for one win in 20 starts. The 5YO gelding had his first start in the Alice on April 9 and was third behind Kyd Rock over 1200m (0-58). Debbonaire Boy then lined up in two races (0-58) finishing second each time over 1400m behind Sweet As Scandi on April 23 and over 1200m behind Future Dreams. All seemed encouraging until finishing seventh next start behind Zelring over 1400m (0-64) on June 19, but struck back to topple Future Dreams over 1400m (Class 2) on July 3. Bartolini is in the race up to ears after two straight wins at Class 2 level, while Sweet As Scandi can bounce back with a 3kg claim. Brat backs up after winning the maiden last Sunday. Morphling can upset. Best Bet #3 Debbonaire Boy (3) 5yo Gelding | T: Ray Viney | J: Lorelle Crow (59.5kg) $5 with Betfair More horse racing tips View the full article
