Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 23, 2022 Journalists Share Posted July 23, 2022 By Jonny Turner Carter Dalgety will be out to make up for missed opportunities at Addington on Sunday. The junior driver had to miss out on a book of quality of drives on Friday night after bad weather caused his flight back to Canterbury from Auckland to be cancelled. Somewhat ironically, it was North Island reinsman Zac Butcher who filled in on a number of those drives. Dalgety is back at home base and ready to continue working on his excellent strike-rate in the sulky this season when combining with three genuine chances on Sunday. Among them is Mitsi Gaynor who steps out in race 8. The Cran and Chrissie Dalgety trained pacer ran a solid fourth on Friday night and looks capable of going even better despite her wide draw in barrier 8. “She went pretty good from a similar draw on Friday night and it is a similar sort of field,” Dalgety said. “She was very unlucky in her runs before that and went super, she had been very consistent.” “You would think even from the draw she would have to be a pretty good chance.” Dalgety also combines with Sonic Reign in race 5. Reverting back to standing start racing looks the key to the Lyn Prendergast trained pacer’s chances. “The last time I drove him from a stand he made a great beginning and ran second to First Class.” “He has drawn 2, so if he could step like that again and stay handy he would be right in it.” Dalgety will drive the Jonny Cox trained He’s Santa’s Excuse in race 6. The four-year-old goes into the 2600m event after an unlucky effort in a Winter Racing Series Final at Wyndham. “He looked really stiff in that last run down south.” “Drawn 2 on Sunday, I have got a few options there.” “The way that he has been going, if he could sit handy he would have to be a good chance.” Following Sunday’s meeting it will be back to university for Dalgety. The junior driver is hoping his exams for semester two of his second year will be done and dusted before New Zealand Cup week. Dalgety sits on 13 wins for the year going into Sunday’s racing.
