Nine midweek races will be run and won at Doomben Racecourse on Wednesday, July 27, with the first race scheduled for 11:58am AEST. The track is rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 7.5m for the entire course, so we expect the fence to be the place to be, especially given the way the track played on Saturday when the rail was out just 2.5m. Read on to see HorseBetting’s best bets and quaddie numbers for the meeting.

Best Bet at Doomben – Maple Door

Kelly Schweida and James Orman combine in the second race of the afternoon, with promising three-year-old Maple Door. The colt by Sebring has had five starts for three minor placings, including to consecutive third-place finishes to start this preparation. Both runs this time in have been over 1200m and he has been screaming out for further, so the rise to 1650m on Wednesday looks ideal. Having drawn wide in barrier 11, Orman is likely to go back again, but that shouldn’t be as much of an issue over this longer trip. The blinkers come off for the first time, which might switch him on a bit more and see him right in the finish.

Best Bet

Race 2 – Silk #5 Maple Door (11)

3yo Colt | T: Kelly Schweida | J: James Orman (57kg)

$3.30 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Doomben – Dovetail Diva

In the last race of the afternoon, classy three-year-old filly Dovetail Diva resumes. The John Symons & Sheila Laxon-trained galloper hasn’t raced since running fifth in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas in January, where she was just three lengths behind Saturday’s Bletchingly Stakes winner, King Of Sparta. The daughter of Headwater has trialled twice in readiness for this task, winning one and running fourth in the other. From barrier two, Craig Robertson is likely to send her forward, lead and give them something to catch. She is classy enough to win a Class 2 Handicap.

Next Best

Race 9 – Silk #1 Dovetail Diva (2)

3yo Filly | T: John Symons & Sheila Laxon | J: Craig Robertson (59kg)

$3.90 with Neds

Best Value at Doomben – Donandkim

Tina Cotsiopoulos has only had three starters in July for two wins and a third, so it is fair to say the stable is flying. The one runner that hasn’t won for her this month is Donandkim, but we think that’s about to change. The five-year-old gelding does some of his best work over the mile at Doomben, so fifth-up looks ideal for him. While Cotsiopoulos is going well, jockey Mark Du Plessis is one of the hottest in Queensland at the moment with eight wins from his past 50 starters and four wins over the weekend just gone. Donandkim can use barrier two to be handier than usual and be within striking distance at the business end.

Best Value

Race 7 – Silk #3 Donandkim (2)

5yo Gelding | T: Tina Cotsiopoulos | J: Mark Du Plessis (57.5kg)

$26 with Palmerbet
