We are back at Fannie Bay this Wednesday for Day 6 of the 2022 Darwin Cup Carnival, headlined by the $40,000 Darwin Corporate Park Cup (1300m). See our best bets and value picks for the day, with top odds from Australia’s best bookmakers.

Race 1 (2.34pm) – $20,000 HK Solutions 0-62 Handicap (1600m)

Southern Bolt had been placed in five of his past six starts before finishing second behind Nokondi over 1300m (0-62) on July 16. The seven-year-old gelding has only won five races in 56 starts and hasn’t won since Darwin Cup Day last year, when he toppled 0-58 opposition over 1600m. In 15 starts at Fannie Bay, Southern Bolt has recorded two wins, three seconds and six thirds, so he will never have a better opportunity to end the drought. Gary Clarke duo We Will Remember and Siakam pose the biggest threat. We Will Remember has finished second in his past two starts, while Siakam posted two-straight seconds before a last-start fifth. Feed The Monster, Jennevee and Prince Ruban are capable of springing an upset.

Race 2 (3.09pm) – $20,000 Jaytex Construction 0-62 Handicap (1200m)

Elmore Lad hasn’t been all that far away in four Darwin starts and has finally drawn a decent gate. The seven-year-old gelding has finished second over 1300m (0-64) behind Raazou, fourth over 1300m (0-70) behind Tugga War and fifth over 1200m (0-66) behind Noble War before coming third over 1300m (0-62) behind Smartkap on July 13. Elmore Lad will have to be at his best as Chief Mondo, Real Valentia, Tony’s Reward, Signor Fangio and Testino are in the frame. Chief Mondo has won two of his past three starts and has been placed five times in his past six starts. Kym Healy pair Real Valentia and Tony’s Reward have impressed in two Top End starts. On their day, Signor Fangio and Testino are pretty classy.

7yo Gelding | T: Kym Hann | J: Sonja Wiseman (60kg)

$4.80 with Bet365

Race 3 (3.44pm) – $20,000 JLL 0-66 Handicap (1100m)

Madam Mischief is a narrow selection. All five starters don’t exactly bring outstanding form to the table. The four-year-old mare was a narrow second behind Swing With Junior – second in the Rose Bowl (0-70) over 1300m for the fillies and mares on July 13 – in a 1200m race for the girls over 1200m (0-62) on July 2 before finishing seventh in the Rose Bowl. Rich Sun had a win followed by two seconds and two fourths before a last-start ninth over 1300m (0-58) on July 2, but has the bonus of a 2kg claim. Overruled can win, but is backing up after coming seventh over 1100m in open class on Saturday. Rising Sphere was a first-up seventh on debut over 1100m (0-66) on July 13. Shenanigan City hasn’t raced since November.

Best Bet

4yo Mare | T: Dick Leech | J: Sairyn Fawke (56kg)

$3.70 with Bet365

Race 4 (4.19pm) – $20,000 bet365 Class 2 Handicap (1100m)

Wild Rover arrived from Victoria and made his debut on Darwin Cup Day last year, where he finished 12th in a field of 12 over 1200m (0-58), before finishing ninth a few weeks later over 1200m (0-54). A third over 1200m (0-54) in December was followed by a win over 1200m (0-58) in January. The four-year-old gelding was unplaced over 1100m (0-58) in February and June before finishing second behind Chief Mondo over 1100m (0-58) on July 16. Rojo Boom had a second (1200m) and a third (1600m) next to his name before a last-start sixth against fellow three-year-olds over 1100m on July 9. Wild Rover and Rojo Boom could be your quinella or exacta. Champs D’Or, Euphegenia, Saint Olga and It’s Pins can surprise.

Best Bet

Race 4 – Wild Rover silks#2 Wild Rover (2)

4yo Gelding | T: Tayarn Halter | J: Paul Shiers (58kg)

$2.25 with Bet365

Race 5 (4.53pm) – $20,000 Ironbark Aboriginal Corporation TROBIS Maiden (1300m)

Fischer had his first Darwin start on May 7, finishing fourth in an 1100m maiden, before running fourth against fellow three-year-olds over 1100m (0-56) on May 21. He then finished second behind future Darwin Guineas winner Wolfburn in a 1200m maiden on June 4 and backed up two weeks later to finish second over 1600m (0-58). Fischer bit off more than he could chew when he lined up in the Darwin Guineas (1600m) on July 2 and finished ninth. He is good enough to win this race, especially with a 3kg claim. Boy Big has appeared in three Darwin maidens from 1200-1300m for three thirds. Bear Forever was a last-start second in a 1200m maiden on July 9. Don’t dismiss Quick Return and Andaman.

Best Bet

Race 5 – Fischer silks#6 Fischer (8)

3yo Gelding | T: Tayarn Halter | J: Jade Hampson (58.5kg)

$3.50 with Bet365

Race 6 (5.29pm) – $40,000 Darwin Corporate Park Cup 0-76 (1300m)

Valentina Star continues to improve since returning to the Top End after two starts at Morphettville at the start of the year. The five-year-old mare raced over 1200m in April and 1300m in May at 0-76 level, finishing fifth and fourth respectively. A third over 1200m (0-70) followed in late May before she finished third by 0.4 length behind the handy Ideas Man over 1000m (0-76) on June 25. It came as no surprise when Valentina Star overcame quality fillies and mares en route to victory in the $30,000 Rose Bowl over 1300m (0-70) on July 13, so she is in the mix if her form holds up. Gary Clarke’s Autocratic and Obligatory boast enviable records and are good enough to get the cash. Swing With Junior, Halgard and Fragore must be respected.

Best Bet

5yo Mare | T: Nicole Irwin | J: Sonja Wiseman (59kg)

$6 with Bet365
