The Ipswich Turf Club plays host to a nine-race program this Friday, and HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst has picked out his best bets and quaddie numbers on a card that offers some serious value. The track is rated a Soft 5, the rail is in the true position for the entire course, and the first race of the afternoon is scheduled to jump at 12:01pm AEST.

Best Bet at Ipswich – Lion King

We get a decent price about Lion King on Friday, and we will happily take it. The son of Sebring was a $300,000 yearling purchase, but after a first-start failure at Rosehill in July last year, he left the Hawkes stable in Sydney and joined Peter Quinlan’s Gold Coast yard. While he has not raced for 12 months, the three-year-old gelding has had the benefit of two trials, winning his most recent at Deagon in handy-enough time when defeating Celtic Harp, who won on Monday at the Sunshine Coast by three and a half lengths. He’s been gelded, has had a few gear changes and gets the services of underrated jockey Jackson Morris. This is a suitable race for him.

Best Bet

Race 3 – Silks #1 Lion King (13)

3yo Gelding | T: Peter Quinlan | J: Jackson Morris (58.5kg)

Next Best at Ipswich – River Rocket

Les Ross’ River Rocket doesn’t win out of turn, but all five of his victories have been at Ipswich and three of those have been with Sheriden Tomlinson in the saddle. The five-year-old son of Hidden Dragon gets into this 1350m Benchmark 72 with only 54kg on his back, which will allow him to try and burn the candle at both ends. Drawn wide in barrier 11, Tomlinson will cross over to the front and really give them something to chase. While his form can be fairly mixed, his 1.2-length fourth two starts ago at this track and trip was in a race which saw Gwan So (1st) go and run second in the Grafton Guineas, while Nishikori (2nd) won impressively on Monday, and Doomani (3rd) went well in Saturday company on the weekend. He can continue that hot run of form.

Next Best

Race 6 – Silks #15 River Rocket (11)

5yo Gelding | T: Les Ross | J: Sheriden Tomlinson (a1.5)(55kg)

Best Value at Ipswich – Ascot Express

Barry Baldwin is absolutely flying in 2022 with 13 wins from his past 50 starters. Ascot Express hasn’t raced since November last year, but he will be looking to add to Baldwin’s tally when he steps out at his favourite track on Friday. The five-year-old gelding has had three starts at the Bundamba track, winning once and running third on the two other occasions. Drawn well in barrier five, Ascot Express will get a lovely trail under Taylor Marshall and be able to hit the line strongly at the end of the 1200m journey. The son of Shamexpress is no superstar, but nothing in this race is. The online bookies are giving us $12 for this one, and we are snapping that up.

Best Value

Race 5 – Silks #4 Ascot Express (5)

5yo Gelding | T: Barry Baldwin | J: Taylor Marshall (57.5kg)
