A massive 10-race program on the Pakenham Synthetic awaits punters on Monday afternoon when the 2022/23 racing season officially gets underway. With plenty of memorable moments occurring in the 2021/22 season, connections will be hoping Monday’s synthetic meeting is the start of a remarkable season.

The day of racing is set to get underway at 11:55am AEST.

PAKENHAM BEST BET: SYCORAX

Following an impressive first-up performance on a Soft 6 at Bendigo on July 14 when finishing second, the Peter Moody-trained Sycorax presents a clear best bet of the day. The three-year-old filly ran into a smart one in Cap De Joie on that day and considering this looks to be much easier, she should be too good for this lot. Considering she led the field up on that day, we expect Blaike McDougall to use her early speed and look for the rail. If the now four-year-old mare can replicate her last start effort, it should be more than enough to run her rivals off their feet. The $2.80 on offer with online bookmakers looks a perfect price.

Best Bet

Race 2 – silks#8 Sycorax (13)

4yo Mare | T: Peter Moody | J: Blaike McDougall (58kg)

$2.80 with Bet365

NEXT BEST AT PAKENHAM: ETEREA

We will be looking to make our presence known early on in the day, as the Matt Cumani-trained Eterea steps out over 2200m. The now four-year-old mare will not get a better chance to break her maiden then what she gets on Sunday. Having finished second at two of her past three starts, the now four-year-old mare has been racing in more than good enough form to suggest she will take some beating in this maiden. With speed drawn directly underneath her, Billy Egan should be able to lob Eterea on the heels of the leaders throughout and when asked for an effort, the Nicconi mare has much more upside than most of her rivals.

Next Best

Race 1 – silks#6 Eterea (6)

4yo Mare | T: Matt Cumani | J: Billy Egan (62.5kg)

$2.50 with Neds

PAKENHAM VALUE BET: QUICK ENUFF

With a bit of luck, our wallets are full and we are still alive in the quaddie heading into the last, just so we can launch into the Ben Brisbourne-trained Quick Enuff. The five-year-old mare arguably should have won last time out on the Ballarat Synthetic when copping a bump inside the final furlong, so to finish under a length of the winner is remarkable in itself. Her last two runs have been massive in defeat and despite drawing barrier 13 on Monday, we anticipate she will be too hard to hold out. Hannah Edgley sticks on board claiming 2kg and with another strong turn of foot, we’re happy to be with Quick Enuff in the final race of the day.

Best Value

Race 10 – silks#9 Quick Enuff (13)

5yo Mare | T: Ben Brisbourne | J: Hannah Edgley (a2) (59kg)

$9.50 with Bet365
