Coming away well while allowing Belmont Derby upsetter Classic Causeway (Giant's Causeway) to clear going past the stands the first time, Nations Pride settled in the perfect spot, stalking from the pocket in third while drafting behind the pacesetter. Coming off the rail into the lane, he charged past Classic Causeway inside the eighth pole and finished up smartly to win by 1 1/2 lengths in the end. Second choice Annapolis (War Front) edged out Classic Causeway for second late.
