Sale Turf Club is the venue for Victorian thoroughbred racing on Thursday afternoon, with gallopers predicted to be running on a rare Good track for this time of year. Race one gets underway at 1pm AEST, with the last of eight set to start at 4:30pm. The quaddie starts at 3pm and it looks to be a tough one to predict for the second day in a row, but with tricky fields comes value, so hopefully punters find the right combinations.

SALE BEST BET: HESITATE

Craig Newitt will steer Hesitate, who returns to Sale after almost getting the win at her last start. On a Good track and starting at each-way odds, she settled fourth and then made a run for the line just getting done by a nose but after seeing the track we think she is a big improver. She does drop back to 1415m after running over 1717m last start, but we will trust the judgement of the Busuttin & Young combination with this horse. This is not a strong maiden and we like the fact that this mare has run a second and third from two attempts on Good ground. Newitt knows the horse well and after two seconds from her last three starts, Hesitate is ready to show her best.

NEXT BEST AT SALE: ROYAL HARD HAT

Royal Hard Hat did enough on debut when winning at this track on a Good surface over 1400m. He settled on pace and got a nice run in transit, and for Greg Eurell (trainer) and Josh Richards (jockey) they have a good chance to finish top three again. He had four jumpouts before breaking his maiden, so he was pretty fit and he should be 100 percent primed to show his best again. Barrier 12 is a slight concern, but Richards will likely be positive and try to position up in the top three or four and get some cover. From Pantherland won well two starts back and will be a main rival, but that was on a Heavy surface and his form on Good tracks isn’t great.

SALE VALUE BET: JUDESTAR

This mare hasn’t shown a lot in her last 10 starts having only been placed three times, but we still think she is value with online bookmakers. She was beaten less than two lengths at Pakenham last start when fourth and it looked as though she wasn’t too far away from a top-three return again after she flew home over the final 200m at $13 fixed odds. She goes better on Good tracks having won two from nine starts which include three placings. From barrier 11 she will likely drift back early and try to unleash a strong finish similar to last start.
