Racing in Queensland on Friday heads to Ipswich for a competitive nine-race program. HorseBetting’s Queensland racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 11:40am AEST. The track is rated a Soft 5, and the rail is out 4m from the 1100m to the winning post and then 2m for the remainder of the track.

Best Bet at Ipswich – Uncle Russ

Lindsay Hatch saddles up last-start Toowoomba winner Uncle Russ in a Class 2 Plate for Colts, Geldings & Entires. The four-year-old son of Adelaide won on debut here at Ipswich in March, before running a very brave second at Doomben behind Reliable Ruby in April over 1050m. Hatch then gave the gelding a spell, before resuming with a nice win at his home track on July 23. At his only outing at Ipswich, Uncle Russ raced away to a six and a half-length win over the short 800m journey, so the 1200m is somewhat unchartered territory for him on Friday. In saying that, he has drawn well to get an economical run in barrier six and he should get every chance to win again.

Best Bet

Race 8 – Silk #13 Uncle Russ (6)

4yo Gelding | T: Lindsay Hatch | J: Jake Molloy (a2)(59kg)

$2.45 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Ipswich – Night Guy

We are happy to forgive the Peter & Will Hulbert-trained Night Guy after a running fifth in his first start for the stable at Gatton in July. The six-year-old son of Lonhro hasn’t won for a long time, but after starting his career in Victoria with the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr stable, he should find racing in this neck of the woods easier. As the gates opened at Gatton, Night Guy was squeezed badly and spat out the back, but he still made up good ground to run fifth. Stable jockey Adin Thompson retains the ride, and barrier four gives him plenty of options in this race over 1350m. He would prefer it wetter, but the Soft 5 should be to his liking.

Next Best

Race 5 – Silk #6 Night Guy (4)

6yo Gelding | T: Peter & Will Hulbert | J: Adin Thompson (58kg)

Best Value at Ipswich – Ramtastic

Ramtastic hasn’t won since October 2020, but he seems to have found a new lease on life in Glenn Richardson’s Nanango stable. When resuming at Dalby on June 14, he looked quite fat, but he hit the line nicely after missing the kick slightly to run third. His past two starts have been at the Non-TABs at Roma and Bundaberg, where he has finished in the minor money on both occasions. The seven-year-old will find this race a bit tougher given it is provincial grade, but he has the class on his day to be too good for this field – as the 64kg suggests. Olivia Webb will take 3kg off, and barrier three will allow him to jump cleanly and find the front. The son of Sepoy should be rock-hard fit now that he is fourth-up and be pretty hard to beat over the 800m.

Best Value

Race 3 – Silk #1 Ramtastic (3)

7yo Gelding | T: Glenn Richardson | J: Olivia Webb (a3)(64kg)
