Visit Ladbrokes

The Hamilton Racing Club is scheduled to host a seven-race card on Friday afternoon, and the track has come up a Heavy 10 following plenty of rain in the area. With the rail out 5m from the 1800m-1400m, out 5m from the 800m-400m and then true for the remainder, the conditions are set to favour those runners with race fitness on their side. The day of racing is set to commence at 1:10pm AEST.

Best Bet at Hamilton – Goliotus

The Ricky Bruhn-trained Goliotus comes to the Hamilton 2224m following a smart staying effort in town at Sandown on August 7. The five-year-old gelding chased home the likes of Golden Crusader and Pres De Toi on that day when beaten by just over 2.5 lengths in a much tougher race than this. He goes up 3kg from that effort, but considering he drops out of a metropolitan level BM64 to a BM58 in the country, he just looks perfectly placed. From barrier five, look for Melissa Julius to lob the son of Magnus close to the speed throughout. Goliotus boasts a record of 5: 2-2-1 on Heavy ground and he looks to be a perfect bank-builder.

Best Bet

Race 6 – Silk #4 Goliotus (5)

5yo Gelding | T: Ricky Bruhn | J: Melissa Julius (61kg)

$3.50 with Palmerbet

Next Best at Hamilton – Treloar

The Luke Oliver-trained Treloar comes to the Hamilton 1212m fresh off a third-place finish at the Bairnsdale 1200m and looks to be one of the better bets on the card. The four-year-old son of Real Impact kept laying in throughout the home straight last time out and would have finished closer if he had just run in a straight line. From barrier three, Jake Duffy may opt to have this fella settled a touch closer to the speed than usual, and if that be the case, Treloar arguably has the best turn of foot in the race and should prove too hard to hold out. With two minor placings from five career starts, this looks the right race for him.

Next Best

Race 3 – Silk #7 Treloar (3)

4yo Gelding | T: Luke Oliver | J: Jake Duffy (59.5kg)

$1.60 with Unibet

Best Value at Hamilton – Crimson Reward

Daniel Williams and Thomas Stockdale are set to combine in the opening event of the day, where five-year-old gelding Crimson Reward will look to break his maiden at start three. The son of Reward for Effort was held up for a run inside the final furlong at Cranbourne on August 4, and with clearer air he could have finished much closer than the 3.65-length margin suggests. That was on a Heavy 8, so we anticipate he will handle what is in front of him on Friday. Coming to this second-up from a spell, he should have benefited from that first-up run. Despite potentially giving his rivals a start in this from the rear of the field, there looks to be no reason why he cannot round them up in the shadows of the winning post.

Best Value

Race 1 – Silk #2 Crimson Reward (2)

5yo Gelding | T: Daniel Williams | J: Thomas Stockdale (59.5kg)

$5.50 with Neds
