If there’s one thing greyhound owners love talking about, it’s greyhounds. Their own, the one’s they’ve seen, other people’s greyhounds, what to dress them in… there’s seemingly endless conversation about these long-dogs.

Greyhound Adoption Program volunteers take this to the next level; they can’t wait to tell others about the wonders of having a grey in their home.

One of the most enthusiastic exponents is this year’s recipient of the 2022 GRV CEO Welfare Award; volunteer, foster carer and adopter Kelli Reynolds.

Rarely is there a GAP activation in Victoria without Kelli. She has been volunteering since 2014, making appearances at GAP adoption days, promotions, community days and GRV race meetings; anywhere there’s a chance to talk to people and introduce the breed. In the past five years, she has provided 13,400 hours as a volunteer.

Her work for the breed isn’t confined to dealing with the public. She has worked as a kennel attendant at GAP Seymour and is now employed at the Port Philip Animal Hospital alongside GAP Veterinarian and 2020 GRV CEO Welfare Award recipient, Dr Bec Goode.

In addition, Kelli has provided foster care for 50 greyhounds, and in the last year or so has also applied her care to medical fosters, supervising and assisting dogs that may be recovering from surgery or in need of rehabilitation and medication. In some cases, the medical foster period can last up to five months.

Kelli’s dedication and enthusiasm for the promotion of greyhounds as pets has been outstanding, and she’s never short of a conversation or two with prospective, and current owners and fosterers.
