Pakenham Racecourse is scheduled to host an eight-part card on Monday afternoon for what is the penultimate meeting of the synthetic season at the club and Horsebetting’s Victorian betting expert presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie selections. A perfect day for racing is forecast, for the meeting commencing at 1pm AEST.

PAKENHAM BEST BET: Big Darryl

We are going to butter up one more time with Big Darryl, because how can we not? The eight-year-old gelding has two wins and two seconds to his name on the synthetic through his last four starts and is low-flying in recent times. Andrew Homann looks to have placed him perfectly in this BM58 and despite being allocated 62kg, gets apprentice Lachlan Overall on who claims 3kg and brings him down to 59kg. The young apprentice has been aboard Big Darryl at his last two starts, with the pair forming a nice combination for punters. With speed drawn either side of him, look for Overall to settle the Kaphero gelding in the one-one, where the pair can stalk the speed, let down with a nice turn of foot and prove too good for this lot. The $6.50 with some online betting sites looks to be a ridiculous price.

Best Bet

Race 8 – silks#1 Big Darryl (6)

8yo Gelding | T: Andrew Homann | J: Lachlan Overall (a3) (62kg)

$6.50 with Bet365

NEXT BEST AT PAKENHAM: Sycorax

We were with the Peter Moody-trained Sycorax when the four-year-old mare broke her maiden at star four and we liked what we saw. Despite doing plenty wrong in the home straight, the So You Think mare scored by a half-length, but without a doubt if she runs straight rather than laying in throughout the final 400m, she would have put a big gap on her rivals. With this being just a BM58, this is not the deepest race going around and a repeat performance of her maiden victory has her right in a race like this. From barrier 10, looks for Blaike McDougall to have the mare settled in the first half a dozen and armed with a nice turn of foot, Sycorax should be bring up consecutive victories for the first time in her career.

Next Best

Race 7 – silks#5 Sycorax (10)

4yo Mare | T: Peter Moody | J: Blaike McDougall (60kg)

PAKENHAM VALUE BET: Nixie

Grahame Begg and Jordan Childs are set to combine once again with three-year-old filly Nixie who will be looking to bounce back from a poor showing at the Pakenham synthetic 1000m on August 15. The Nicconi filly simply had a plethora of excuses out of that race. The saddle slipped, she was badly held up at an important moment and got too far out of her ground when struggling to beat a runner home. She is in the middle of a long campaign, so will have race fitness on her side and considering she brings form behind Giga Kick and Thron Bone, she looks over the oods with online bookmakers in this 1000m scamper.

Best Value

Race 5 – silks#9 Nixie (8)

3yo Filly | T: Grahame Begg | J: Jordan Childs (56.5kg)

$7.50 with Bet365
