The Sydney Cup winner resumed in fine fashion at Randwick on Saturday, leading all of the way in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes, denying a brave Numerian.

The eight-year-old son of So You Think got an uncontested lead under Tim Clark in the 1600m encounter, and that proved to be the difference at the business end, as Tim Clark booted home his second Group 2 win of the day.

Despite never having fired a shot first-up in six previous attempts, the stayer enjoyed the Heavy 10 test in his first run for the preparation on Saturday.

“Knights Order has stamped himself well and truly as a weight-for-age horse,” Waterhouse said.

“But only a good horse wins the Chelmsford.

“It was like a longer race being wet and they didn’t take him on early so it gave him the chance to get into his rhythm. What a versatile horse.

“We have been thinking about Knights Order’s preparation but we have one race in mind for him and that’s the Melbourne Cup.

We will let the dust settle and decide which races he goes to next. He wasn’t bought for much money at the Tattersalls’s Sale. Rob (husband) found him on form.”

Knights Order is now a $26 hope in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup with online bookmakers, with the two mile journey arguable his pet trip.
