Godolphin trainer James Cummings has suggested Anamoe’s health has improved dramatically after his victory in the George Main Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

The highest-profile colt in the land pulled up lame after his almost one-length win.

He was found to be 3/5 lame in the off-foreleg after the race, casting doubt on his spring carnival schedule.

But Cummings could release a statement as early as today, after he told Big Sports Breakfast Weekend there were good signs Anamoe’s lameness issues would not affect the four-year-old’s build- up to the Cox Plate.

“We had great veterinary care straight onto him at the races and he was examined thoroughly before he got on the float to Osborne Park,” Cummings said.

“The good news was when he got back to Osborne Park he had improved a lot from that three grades out of five lameness that was determined by the club vet.

“Dr Trevor Robson has been vetting horses for Darley for ‘100 years’ and he felt he (Anamoe) was about a grade lame at the farm.

“We will go right over him again. His health will come first but the good news is he has improved a lot from the initial assessment that was published last night by the stewards.”

If Anamoe overcomes any lameness issues, it is likely he will race next in the Might And Power Stakes at Caulfield on October 8, prior to the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 22.
