Warwick Farm Racecourse will host a very competitive nine-race program on Wednesday, highlighted by the rescheduled Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1600m) from last Saturday. The track is currently rated as a Heavy 10 after rain all of last week; however, there is no rain on the forecast, so we may not be on a bog track come raceday. The rail will be out in the 3m position, and we think that may play favourable to leaders and on-pace runners for most of the day. The first race will kick off at 12:45pm AEDT.

Gloaming Stakes Tip: Sharp N Smart

In the $500,000 Gloaming Stakes for the three-year-olds, we will be siding with the Graeme & Deborah Rogerson-trained Sharp N Smart, who hasn’t been seen in Australia since running in the Group 1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm on June 11. This three-year-old gelding has a very good career record, with two wins and two minor placings from his first five starts. After winning first-up at Ruakaka over 1400m on September 10, this son of Redwood has been sent back over to Australia to take on some of our best three-year-old races this spring. When we last saw this guy in our Winter, he sat towards the back of the field and ran home very strong in both of his races at Eagle Farm, but in his return to racing, this gelding sat on pace and still finished off very strong, showing that he can adapt and be versatile with his racing pattern. Hugh Bowman will reunite with Sharp N Smart after riding him at both of his previous Australian starts, so he will have this guy in the right spot to make sure he has every chance to win.

Best Bet at Warwick Farm: Camino Real

Our best bet of the day comes up in race seven over 1400m where we will be siding with the James Cummings-trained Camino Real who won very nicely over 1300m at Hawkesbury on September 29 on a Heavy track. This four-year-old mare has had five starts on a Heavy track where she has won once and been placed three times, showing that she loves a wet track. This daughter of Shamardal has never been over 1400m before, but the way she ran through the line over 1300m last start, there is every indication that she will appreciate the step up in distance today with a cosy run from barrier five just off the speed.

Next Best at Warwick Farm: Va Via

The James Cummings-trained Va Via will be the our next best bet in race six over 1100m for fillies and mares. The Godolphin team must think very highly of this three-year-old filly, as she has raced in Group 2, Group 3 and Listed races throughout her first nine career starts. This daughter of Astern has the best form in this field at a higher level of racing, finishing third in three of her last four starts, so hopefully today she can turn her form around. Jumping from barrier one, Rachel King will hopefully have her leading or just behind the leader and be too classy for them late.

Best Value at Warwick Farm: Washington Towers

Our best value bet will be the Todd Smart-trained Washington Towers in the lucky last race of the day over 1100m. This six-year-old gelding has a very good record on rain affected tracks, recording six wins from 14 starts on either Soft or Heavy tracks. This son of Whittington will be second-up today after a sub-par first-up run over 900m at Newcastle on September 16. This gelding has a good second-up record, with two wins and a second from six runs, so if Reece Jones can cross the field and lead, he will be very hard to run down in the concluding stages.
