Into Mischief’s Gina Romantica Scores ‘Special’ Victory in QEII

GINA ROMANTICA (f, 3, Into Mischief–Special Me, by Unbridled's Song) added to the already stellar resumes of both her dam and sire with a victory in Keeneland's GI QEII Challenge Cup Saturday. Given a 9-2 chance in this event, the $1.025-million KEESEP buy saved ground in fourth through a :23.66 opening quarter. Sliding up the fence to move into a close-up third through a :48.22 half-mile, the bay kept the leader well within her sights on the backstretch run and split foes at the top of the lane to take command. She kept on finding in the lane to hold off a late run from her stablemate McKulick (GB) (Frankel {GB}) by two lengths. Winning of her first three starts, all on dirt, Gina Romantica checked in fourth in the Wilton S. on the Saratoga main track July 14. Switched to the grass, she captured that venue's Riskaverse S. Aug. 25 and was a close second in the GIII Pebbles S. at Aqueduct Sept. 18.
