Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott can breathe a big sigh of relief – Alligator Blood will take his place from barrier 12 in the Cox Plate at The Valley on Saturday.

Racing Victoria confirmed a lameness to the near-fore that had been detected on Thursday had “resolved” by Friday afternoon.

“The lameness in the horse’s near foreleg detected upon examination yesterday has resolved today,” the statement read.

Waterhouse and Bott were adamant their star six-year-old with over $3.6 million in prizemoney was not lame.

Alligator Blood being passed fit should ensure a good early speed in the $5 million feature over 2040m.

The usually strong, on-the-pace runner’s last victory came in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes over 1800m on September 25, before finishing fifth in the Might And Power Stakes last start on October 8.

Punters might find value in the gelding, who is an $18 outsider to win the Cox Plate with Ladbrokes.
