What Randwick-Kensington Races
Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031
When Wednesday, October 26, 2022
First Race 2pm AEDT

Visit Ladbrokes

We’re on the Kensington track at Randwick on Wednesday afternoon for a quickfire six-race card. The track is listed as soft 6 at this stage, but Sydney is forecast for a significant downpour leading up to race-day. The rail sits in the true position, and as we haven’t raced on the surface for quick sometime, expect on speed runners to be favoured with the fresh ground on the inside running rail.

The first race is scheduled for 2:00pm AEST

Best Bet at Kensington – Iowa

Our best bet of the day comes in the staying contest over 2400m (BM72) with Iowa. A last start winner at Newcastle on October 15, Iowa was far too strong for his rivals clearing out in the final stages by 4.3-lengths. He was third-up there with a fitness edge on moderate opposition but looks to be stepping up nicely in grade and trip on Wednesday afternoon. Mark Newnham seems to be placing his European imports very well and Iowa is no exception as he looks to bag his second win in only his fourth Australian start. Josh Parr gets aboard this Galileo gelding and will look to dictate terms up on speed, and with a real lack of tempo in the race, Iowa should get a good time in front and find another gear late to score.

Best Bet

Race 4 – Silk #3 Iowa (4)

5yo Gelding | T: Mark Newnham | J: Josh Parr (59.5kg)

Next Best at Kensington – Hollywood North

Hollywood North looks to be peaking third-up in this 1800m (BM72) contest in race-three on the card. Chris Waller trains this gelding by Vancouver and should relish conditions. On Wednesday afternoon he is stepping up in trip, dropping back in grade from last start, gets a deteriorating surface and everything seems to fall in favour for our next best of the day. In a race that seems to lack tempo on paper, we think that Bowman will look to ping from barrier six and find a mid-field spot as to not get too far back in the ruck. Despite a small field, he will not want to be giving his rivals too much of a head start, especially on a track that can be hard to make ground on traditionally. The set up looks a strong one here, and with 57.5kg in this company, Hollywood North should get every opportunity to get career win number three on the board.

Next Best

Race 3 – Silk #3 Hollywood North (6)

4yo Gelding | T: Chris Waller | J: Hugh Bowman (57.5kg)

Best Value at Kensington – Vucetich

With a stable change from the James Cummings to Robert Quinn, Vucetich comes off a 336-day spell to be first-up and we’re keen to be with him as our each-way play of the day. While his first-up form doesn’t read very well, only hitting the frame once in five starts, he’s looked to trial in outstanding order with back-to-back confidence boosting efforts, being hard held to the line and barely asked for an effort on both September 23 (Warwick Farm) and October 10 (Randwick). He’s had a couple set-backs and finally comes into a preparation with no issues, and at his peak level looks to be over the odds with online bookmakers. Tom Sherry takes the ride after steering him in both barrier trials which with gives us great confidence he’s given him a nice feel heading into race-day. He’ll get back in the run but look for him to storm home late putting the head down to score.

Best Value

Race 5 – Silk #7 Vucetich (10)

5yo Gelding | T: Robert Quinn | J: Tom Sherry (57kg)
