Country racing heads to the Ballina Jockey Club on Monday afternoon for a seven-race card. The track is currently rated as a soft 7, although with some clearing day’s ahead, we could end up in the good to soft range come race-day. The rail sits in the true position, with racing set to get underway at 2:10pm AEDT. Let’s find some winners.

Best Bet: Proost

We look to get the damage done nice and early on the Ballina card with Paul Shailer-trained mare Proost. She broke her maiden last start in stylish fashion at Grafton on October 18, Proost smashed her rivals winning by 3.8-lengths that day and looks to go back-to-back. We love the step up in trip here at Ballina to this 1900m contest, with a race filled with plenty of gallopers hitting their peak already, it looks like Proost has more progression going forward. Ben Looker rode her to victory last start, and so long as he gives Proost clear running turning for home, she looks a great bet to start the day.

Next Best: Deelosh

We look for a race-to-race double tipping wise with our next best of the day Deelosh in race two. This lightly raced four-year-old for the Kris Lees yard look due to break her maiden status, with this 1300m race looking a great chance to do just that. Deelosh is third-up after being beaten favourite last time out at Lismore on October 16, she pressed forward in a race with too much speed and petered out late on the line to go down by 2.5 legnths. Stepping back to 1300m here should see Deelosh run out the trip, plus a favourable speed map, she looks a great hope in moderate maiden company. Andrew Mallyon will go to the front, and hopefully be too strong to the line at a good price with online bookmakers.
