Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 30, 2022 Journalists Share Posted October 30, 2022 Sadly, Allen Deed – the longstanding 525-metre track record holder at The Meadows – passed away yesterday, aged 10. He was whelped on Christmas Day, 2011. Trained by Andrea Dailly, Allen Deed clocked a scintillating 29.376sec in a Free For All on January 3, 2015 – slashing around 1L off the 29.45sec mark set by Heston Bale (also prepared by Dailly) on December 17, 2011 in a 12.75L Silver Chief heat romp. Amazingly, in this seven-dog field, Dailly trained the first five placegetters – Musquin Bale (2nd), Humphrey Bale (3rd), Dyna Glinda (4th) and Dyna Yemen (5th). She also finished seventh with Ollie Bale. “He showed tonight what he can do when things go his way,” George Dailly said at the time. And when interviewed this morning, a saddened George said Allen Deed was a “beautiful dog”. “Andrea and Tom loved him – they were looking after him at their Anakie complex… He just succumbed to old age. “Andrea and Tom loved him… He just succumbed to old age.” “He was as good as gold yesterday morning when a staff member went to the kennels to take his rug off. However, at feeding time around an hour later, he was gone. “He was a very fast dog and that’s highlighted by the fact his track record at The Meadows has stood for almost eight years.” A descendant of the perennial “Bale” pedigree, Allen Bale (Jarvis Bale x Greta Bale) was a member of a litter of seven (five male, 2 female). It also included Allen Eryk (16 from 74, $93,330) and Allen Zentax (9 from 59, $42,435). Allen Deed’s 2014 Group 1 Adelaide Cup victory was another racing highlight. In fact, Allen Deed was a four-time G1 finalist – also contesting the 2015 Temlee (6th), 2014 Topgun (5th) and 2014 Sale Cup (6th). He was also a four-time G2 finalist, including runner-up in the 2015 Horsham Cup. And he was runner-up in the 2014 G3 Bert Bryant Memorial. Dailly trifectaed the event – Musquin Bale (1st) and Easton Bale (3rd). Allen Deed started on 65 occasions for 24 wins, 13 seconds and two thirds, with $238,720 in prizemoney. Bred by late breeding doyen Paul Wheeler – and owned by his wife, Janice – Allen Deed went on to great ‘deeds’ at stud. A handful of his elite progeny include Qwara Bale, Jarick Bale, Stanley Road, Jax Bale, Dusty Bourbski, Providence Bale, Graclyn Bale and Fabriola Zad. During the past three years, Allen Deed’s progeny have cracked the ‘magical million’ in prizemoney – 2020 ($1,294,054), 2021 ($2,626,198) and 2022 ($1,254,863). WATCH: ALLEN DEED (B5) established a new 525m track record at The Meadows, defeating kennelmate MUSQUIN BALE (B1) by 6L in a sizzling 29.376sec.
