Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 30, 2022 Journalists Share Posted October 30, 2022 In saddle cloth order, the first of the international runners in the 2022 Melbourne Cup is the Simon & Ed Crisford-trained Without A Fight. The father-and-son combination of Simon and Ed Crisford became the first trainers in Britain to become joint licence-holders in May 2020. The Crisfords are yet to have a runner in Australia but have enough understanding of what sort of horse is required to succeed in these surrounds. Simon Crisford worked as Godolphin’s racing manager for a 20-year period until February 2014, venturing to Melbourne on multiple occasions. He started his association with Sheikh Mohammed in 1989, working for his Darley Stud in Newmarket. Without A Fight has won four of his last eight starts, dating back to September 2021, and seven of 17 runs overall. When will Without A Fight run in the Melbourne Cup? The Melbourne Cup will be run on the first Tuesday in November at Flemington in front of a sold out crowd for the first time since 2019. The one thing that hasn’t changed about the 2022 Melbourne Cup is the horses. Once again The Cup has brought together an elite field of Melbourne Cup horses to contest the two mile race for $7.75 million. Without A Fight T: Simon & Ed Crisford J: William Buick Age: 5YO Color: Bay Sex: Gelding Sire: Teofilo (IRE) Dam: Khor Sheed (IRE) Win: $11.00 Place: $3.90 Best odds at Neds Career stats for Without A Fight Career: 17: 7-3-4 Flemington: 0: 0-0-0 Distance: 0: 0-0-0 Wet: 5: 2-0-2 Good: 12: 5-3-2 Group 1: 1: 0-0-0 Win %: 41% Place %: 82% Melbourne Cup results for Without A Fight The 2022 Melbourne Cup will be Without A Fight’s first appearance in the Melbourne Cup. Can Without A Fight win The Cup? Without A Fight is the first of the international runners in the Melbourne Cup field and on exposed form, he is hard to knock. He won comfortably over 2800m at York earlier in the year on firmer ground, but has the runs on the board in terms of wins on rain-affected tracks to be prominent in this. This is obviously his first start on these shores and if we somehow get an improving track, his chances further increase. He has two wins and two minor placings on Heavy ground earlier in his career, but there looks to be a handful of other runners who will appreciated the expected Heavy 9/10 track come the running of the Cup. From barrier 18, look for William Buick to have this bloke up on speed with cover from the tricky draw and as long as he handles the occasion, Without A Fight is a key trifecta/first four player.
