Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 30, 2022 Journalists Posted October 30, 2022 Let go at odds of 7-1 for Sunday's newly upgraded GIII Street Sense S. at a rain-soaked Churchill Downs, TWO PHIL'S (c, 2, Hard Spun–Mia Torri, by General Quarters) took off in earnest three furlongs from home and raced a bit greenly late, but had done enough by that point to sew up a fairly comfortable victory. Away with the vanguard, Two Phil's bumped soundly into the first turn with Red Route One (Gun Runner), causing a chain reaction that forced longshot Western Ghent (American Pharoah) brutally wide, then found a cozy spot from fourth as Top Recruit (Midshipman) dictated an even pace from the rail. Covered up behind GIII With Anticipation S. winner Boppy O (Bolt d'Oro) and Frosted Departure (Frosted) at the half-mile marker, Two Phil's was steered out into the clear and commenced a strong rally passing the three-eighths. Sustaining that momentum, the chestnut wrested command in upper stretch and may have been distracted some by the reflection of the grandstand off the puddles of water on the track, but finished up well to score. Hayes Strike (Connect) made an inside run simultaneous with the eventual winner into the final quarter mile and plugged on gamely for second ahead of Filiparino (Honor Code), who stumbled significantly at the break and did well to round out the triple. Jace's Road (Quality Road), favored at 2-1, unseated Florent Geroux pre-start and never looked like handling the off going in finishing well down the field.
