Group 1 Winner Bayside Boy To Stand At Ballylinch Stud In 2023

Group 1 winner Bayside Boy (Ire) (New Bay {GB}–Alava {Ire}, by Anabaa) has been retired and will stand at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland in 2023. A fee will be announced in due time for the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. hero and a limited number of shares will be available to breeders.

Bred by Ballylinch and raced by Teme Valley Racing and Ballylinch in partnership, the Roger Varian-trained bay won the G2 Champagne S. as a juvenile and was also third at Group 1 level in both the Dewhurst S. and Vertem Futurity Trophy. A 200,000gns Tatteralls October yearling, he ended his career with a victory in the QEII on QIPCO British Champions Day and retires with a mark of 10-4-1-2 and $1,001,765 in earnings.

Richard Ryan of Teme Valley said, “Bayside Boy was exceptional yearling and he has given us some of our best days in racing. He was a top-class 2-year-old but it was his brilliant turn of foot that stole the show on Champions Day. Very few horses can accelerate like that in Group 1 races and his Queen Elizabeth II win was one of the most exciting performances I've seen.”

“Bayside Boy was a strong, mature 2-year-old who boasted excellent juvenile form,” added Varian. “He won impressively on debut and proved that he was one of the best 2-year-olds of his generation with his win in the G2 Champagne S. before going close in both the Dewhurst and the Futurity Trophy.

“He is an exceptionally good-looking colt and was very sound to train. He possesses a lot of natural speed and his turn of foot in the Queen Elizabeth II showed the public what we always saw at home.”

A son of the Listed Prix Occitanie victress Alava, Bayside Boy is a half-brother to three-time group winner Forest Ranger (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}) and the stakes-placed Home Cummins (Ire) (Rip Van Winkle {Ire}). The extended family features group winners Tamise (Time For A Change), Motivado (GB) (Motivator {GB}), Sestilio Jet (Fr) (French Fifteen {Fr}) Quirinetta (Ardross {Ire}) and Aucilla (Relaunch). The last-named produced GI Personal Ensign H. heroine Passing Shot to the cover of A.P. Indy.
