In this continuing series, we take a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here are the horses of interest for this weekend running at Tokyo and Hanshing Racecourses. Group 1 racing in Japan takes the week off, but four events at Group 2 and Group 3 level are programmed, including the stakes debut of an expensive and promising OBS March acquisition:

FROM DUSK (c, 2, Bolt d'Oro–Foolish Cause, by Giant's Causeway) overcame driving rain and easy ground to graduate first time out over 1200 meters Sept. 3 (see below, SC 6), but hopped at the start of his first go against winners Sept. 24, was checked on the backstretch and never reached contention. A $200,000 Keeneland September yearling, the half-brother to SW Foolish Humor caught the eye at this year's OBS March Sale and was knocked down to Hideyuki Mori for $900,000. The colt's dam is a half-sister to the late MGISW Get Stormy (Stormy Atlantic). B-Springhouse Farm (KY)

DIXIE GUNNER (c, 2, Gun Runner–Dixie Crisp, by Dixieland Band) is one of seven to race from his late stakes-placed dam, who has also produced SW & GSP Southern Freedom (Pure Prize), SW Reconstruction (Broken Vow) and GSP Epic Dreamer (Orb). A $150,000 purchase by Paca Paca Farm out of the 2020 Keeneland November Sale, the Mar. 8 foal was a sound second on debut going this distance at Chukyo Sept. 18 and retains the services of Breeders' Cup-winning jockey Yuga Kawada. 9th-TOK, ¥19,530,000 ($133k), Allowance, 2yo, 2000mT
MEINER VISION (JPN) (c, 2, Oscar Performance–Songoficeandfire, by Dynaformer) was a highly promising third when debuted over nine furlongs of this turf course June 25 and improved for the experience to graduate going the same distance when last seen at Fukushima July 24 (see below, SC 11). The bay gets an extra eighth of a mile to work with Sunday and is bred to relish it, as his dam–who was acquired for $200,000 with this colt in utero at Keeneland January in 2020–was Grade III-placed at 11 and 12 furlongs on the turf. Songoficeandfire is a half-sister to Antonius Pius (Danzig), a Group 2 winner in Ireland and placed three times at the top level, including the 2004 GI Breeders' Cup Mile at Lone Star Park.
