Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 5, 2022 Journalists Posted November 5, 2022 Shadwell Stable's Malathaat (f, 4, Curlin–Dreaming of Julia, by A.P. Indy) got her nose in front in the final jump to win the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff by the narrowest of margins over Blue Stripe (Arg) (Equal Stripes {Arg}) and Clairiere (Curlin). Clairiere and Malathaat were last and second last as Blue Stripe chased pacesetting Society (Gun Runner). Favored Nest (Curlin) made a big move on the turn, but flattened out as Secret Oath (Arrogate) took the lead into the lane. Malathaat was winding up in the center of the track, as Clairiere was sneaking up the rail. Blue Stripe drove to the lead as Secret Oath backed up, but Malathaat was flying to her outside and Clairiere was gaining steadily to her inside as the wire approached, with noses separating the top three. Malathaat, the winner of last year's GI Kentucky Oaks and the reigning Eclipse champion 3-year-old filly, was twice second behind Clairiere this summer before winning the Aug. 27 GI Personal Ensign S. and Oct. 9 GI Spinster S. Lifetime Record: 14-10-3-1. O-Shadwell Stable. B-Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings (Ky). T-Todd Pletcher.
