Donald racing tips

What Donald Cup Day
Where Donald Racecourse – 990 Jeffcott Rd, Donald VIC 3480
When Sunday, November 12, 2022
First Race 1:05pm AEDT

Visit Ladbrokes

Donald Racecourse will host its annual Cup meeting with eight very competitive races on the card, highlighted by the $70,000 Donald Cup. The track is currently rated a Good 4 and we expect the track to stay in that range on raceday. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit, while racing kicks off at 1:05pm AEDT.

Donald Cup Tip: Lucky Decision

The feature event on the card will be the $70,000 Donald Cup over 1620m. We will siding with the Peter Moody-trained Lucky Decision, who is coming off a second placing behind Keats in the Peninsula Cup at Mornington on October 30. After settling at the rear of the field last start, this gelding was left with way too much to do, when trying to catch Keats who lead at a slow tempo and kicked away by four or five lengths at the 400m mark. This four-year-old gelding has been good this preparation, having all of his five starts in town, while not finishing worse than sixth in any of those runs, which is great form for a country cup. We expect to see this son of Zacinto to sit at the rear of the field, but this time he should have more of a chance to run on from the back and run over the top of the leaders late.

Best Bet at Donald: Notabadbuy

Our best bet of the day will come up in the Benchmark 64 over 2200m, where the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Notabadbuy will be looking to go one better than last start where he finished second behind Staunch at Cranbourne over 1600m. This four-year-old gelding will be attempting the 2200m for the first time in his career but he has run over 2300m and 2400m last preparation, where he showed that he could stay but it may have just been too early is his career as a three-year-old. Now that this son of The Bold One has had three runs this preparation, we should be seeing the best of this guy at the 2200m this time in. This guy looks to be the only leader in this field, so if John Allen can cross the field from barrier 10 and get an uncontested lead, he will give himself every chance to kick away on the home turn and be very hard to catch.

Best Bet

Race 4 – Silk #3 Notabadbuy (1)

4yo Gelding | T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | J: John Allen (59kg)

Next Best at Donald: Anphina

The Andrew Bobbin-trained Anphina will return from a two-month spell on Sunday. This three-year-old filly only had one start last preparation at Morphettville Parks, where she sat on speed for the entirety of the 1400m before getting the better of Merchant Boss in the concluding stages to break her maiden by half-a-length. Before this run on Sunday, this daughter of Rebel Dane has been given a solid jump-out at Ararat where she won, under very little riding, showing she has returned in good fashion for this first-up run at Donald. At the end of her first preparation this girl ran in the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final, finishing two lengths behind Quang Tri. If she brings that form to this race on Sunday, she should just be too good and have too much class for this field.

Best Value at Donald: Tern And Go

Our best value at Donald will go around in the Benchmark 64 over 1200m in the second last race of the day. The Patrick Payne-trained Tern And Go has only missed the placings once at her first five career starts and she won her maiden over 1300m at Geelong last preparation on May 5. This four-year-old mare will be second-up on Sunday after running a good second at Warracknabeal on a Heavy 9, where she was held up before straightening, but still ran home strong when she got clear running room. From barrier 11, Harry Coffey will have to take his medicine and go to the back of the field and look to run on. If Coffey gets this girl to the outside on the home turn, look for her to be running home very strong at the end of the 1200m.

Race 7 – Silk #14 Tern And Go (11)
