Following the postponed meeting at Morphettville on Saturday owing to wet weather, we reconvene this Wednesday afternoon for Finals Day. Following torrential rain on the weekend, the track has come up a Soft 7 for racing, while the rail comes out 8m for the entire circuit on the course proper. We kick off the day of racing at 12:10pm ACDT.

Morphettville Best Bet: Manhatten Times

The Gytrash Series Final is arguably the highlight event of the day, and that is where we find our best bet in Manhatten Times. The Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained sprinter was massive in defeat when finishing a head off I Am Bene on October 22, a runner he meets again on Wednesday. The four-year-old gelding was forced to travel four wide with no cover at the rear of the field and gave his rival a 1kg weight advantage. He draws horribly here, but if Jason Holder can have this son of Manhattan Rain settled in the moving line with cover this time around, he has the finishing burst required to blouse his rivals. The $5.50 on offer with online betting sites looks to be a steal.

Next Best Bet at Morphettville: Smokin’ Val

Despite winning just twice from 21 starts, the Jon O’Connor-trained Smokin’ Val looks to be one of the better bets of the day – assuming she can replicate her runner-up effort from last start. The five-year-old mare was forced to travel wide with no cover on October 22 when chasing home Rich Gina, the favourite for this race on Wednesday, and was only beaten by a long neck on the line. She draws much more favourably this time round from barrier five, and with Madison Lloyd on board claiming 2kg, she gains a 1.5kg advantage on her main rival. Smokin’ Val is armed with a strong turn of foot on her day, and with even luck in transit, she looks like the one they have to beat.

Best Value at Morphettville: Rohlon Drunk

The father-son duo of Jamie & Jacob Opperman are set to combine in the BM70 Country Sprint Series with Rohlon Drunk. The seven-year-old was arguably a good thing licked at Naracoorte on October 30 when the jockey lost her whip. The Moshe gelding is more than capable on wet ground, boasting a record of 24: 4-4-5, and despite not running a drum in five starts at Morphettville, he looks well placed to run a big race at a nice price. From barrier eight, look for Opperman to have him settled in the one-one throughout. When asked for an effort, he should be able to level up and put a space on some of his rivals.

Best Value

Race 3 – silks#2 Rohlon Drunk (8)

7yo Gelding | T: Jamie Opperman | J: Jacob Opperman (a2) (59.5kg)
