Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted November 18, 2022 Journalists Share Posted November 18, 2022 What Taree Gold Cup Day Where Manning Valley Racing Club – Racecourse Dr, Taree NSW 2430 When Sunday, November 20, 2022 First Race 1:25pm AEDT Visit Ladbrokes The Manning Valley Racing Club will host its annual Cup meeting this Sunday, highlighted by the $100,000 Taree Gold Cup. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with warm weather on the forecast for Friday and Saturday, we should be racing on a Good track for the majority of the program on Sunday. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit, with racing kicking off at 1:25pm AEDT. Taree Gold Cup Tip: Proost The feature event on Sunday will be the $100,000 Taree Gold Cup, where the Paul Shailer-trained Proost looks very hard to beat after recording a hat-trick of wins at her last three starts. This four-year-old mare has returned in outstanding form this preparation, finishing third first-up before starting this win streak. This daughter of Iffraaj has won her last three by a combined margin of 11 lengths while stepping up in grade each time. Ben Looker has ridden this girl at all four of her runs this campaign, and there will be no difference on Sunday as he will hop back aboard for the feature. The only worry for this girl is the distance — she has never been to 2000m before — but considering she ran away from her rivals and won by more than three lengths at her last two starts over 1900m, she should have no worries with the extra 100m. Taree Gold Cup Tip Race 7 – #9 Proost (4) 4yo Mare | T: Paul Shailer | J: Ben Looker (54kg) $5.50 with Neds Taree Best Bet: Vancouver Khan In race two over 1600m, we will be siding with the Gregory Hickman-trained Vancouver Khan, who was desperately unlucky first-up when going down by half a head over 1400m at Canterbury on September 24. This four-year-old gelding has only had five starts for his career, recording two wins and a second-placing. This son of Vancouver has never won first-up before, so seeing him run second on his return from a five-month spell is a positive sign for his followers. Since his first-up run, Hickman has given this guy a quiet trial over 1200m at Warwick Farm to keep his fitness levels up. Andrew Adkins will take the ride for the first time on Sunday, and from barrier five, he should be able to settle Vancouver Khan on the back of the leaders, which will be a much better position than he was in first-up. Best Bet Race 2 – #4 Vancouver Khan (5) 4yo Gelding | T: Gregory Hickman | J: Andrew Adkins (59kg) $2.60 with Palmerbet Taree Next Best Bet: Willinga Freefall In the last race of the day, Willinga Freefall from the Kris Lees yard will be looking for win two at start two for his career, after recording a very tough win on debut last preparation at Scone on July 15 over 1100m. While lightly raced, this four-year-old gelding has been given two quiet trials at Newcastle over 900m and Wyong over 1000m in the last few weeks. Dylan Gibbons has ridden this guy in two of his trials and the one race last preparation, so he gets along with him very well. Gibbons will try to cross the field and sit outside the leader on Sunday, and if he gets there without doing too much work, Willinga Freefall should be very hard to beat.
