Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 11, 2022 Journalists Posted December 11, 2022 In a tightly-contested running of the GI Starlet S., 'TDN Rising Star' FAIZA (f, 2, Girvin–Sweet Pistol, by Smart Strike) endured a stretch-length duel with Pride of the Nile (Pioneerof the Nile), survived a steward's inquiry into events at the top of the lane, and came out on top for her first graded-stakes win. In the clear from third outside of a pair of rivals, Faiza swung three wide around both turns, always positioned just off the flank of Classymademoiselle (Malibu Moon). As the top five bunched up past the quarter pole, Pride of the Nile darted through an opening on the rail and drifted out a bit right as Faiza tipped in, squeezing back Baffert's other runner Doinitthehardway (Street Sense) in the process. The pair bobbed heads to the line with Faiza coming out a narrow victor. The 2-year-old fillies covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.49. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0. O-Michael Petersen Lund; B-Brereton C Jones; T-Bob Baffert. Sales History: $725,000 2yo EASMAY22.
