Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 14, 2022 Journalists Posted December 14, 2022 Colonial Downs will shift its schedule for the 2023 season and will conduct live racing Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with a first post of 1:30 p.m. The decision was made during a meeting of the Virginia Racing Commission at the New Kent County track. The 2023 meeting will mark the first under the operation of Churchill Downs Incorporated, which acquired the property earlier this year. “CDI is proud to enter Virginia with an expanded race offering that will allow for more Virginians to attend and enjoy live racing,” said Jack Sours, VP of Gaming Operations for CDI. “Since our acquisition of Colonial Downs, we have remained steadfast in our goal to bring top-quality racing and entertainment to New Kent with a product that will attract the best horses, trainers and jockeys and by increasing the flow of purse revenue from historical racing.” The track will announce overnight purse structure, special events and other features of the 2023 season as the time draws nearer. Colonial's signature race, the $300,000 GIII Virginia Derby, will run Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023.
