Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 15, 2022 Journalists Share Posted December 15, 2022 What Flemington Races Where Flemington Racecourse – 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington, VIC 3031 When Saturday, December 17, 2022 First Race 12:35pm AEDT Visit Ladbrokes For the final time in 2022, we head to Flemington for a bumper nine-race program on Saturday afternoon, headlined by the Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m). With near-perfect conditions forecast for racing, we are set to be competing on a track rated a Good 4, while the rail returns to the true position for the first meeting since the conclusion of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. The first from ‘Fabulous Flemington’ is set to jump at 12:35pm AEDT. Kensington Stakes Top Tip: Rose Quartz The Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m) is the headline event out of Flemington and Rose Quartz well and truly has her foot on the till coming into the scamper. The Grahame Begg-trained mare finished within a length of the in-form Jigsaw in the Listed Doveton Stakes when giving his rival too much of a start but flashed home to suggest she was following once again. She returns to the Flemington straight and with two wins and a minor placing at the track, we expect she will continue her strong affiliation with the track. The in-form Michael Dee will look to stalk the speed set by Yulong Command and Esta La Roca and when asked for an effort Rose Quartz should quicken nicely and claim her first black-type success. Kensington Stakes Race 7 – #6 Rose Quartz (3) 5yo Mare | T: Grahame Begg | J: Michael Dee (54kg) $2.80 with Ladbrokes JRA Trophy Top Tip: Never Again The Listed JRA Trophy (2600m) opens the quaddie and coming off an eye-catching win at Sandown last weekend, the Reece Goodwin-trained Never Again looks the one to beat. In a field where plenty of his rivals are struggling to find the winning post in recent times, the fact this eight-year-old gelding has two wins and two minor placings from his last six starts has us siding with him on the quick back-up. In a race where he gains a 6kg weight advantage on race favourite Persan, we expect the race to be run to Never Again’s liking where he can run on from the rear on the back of a moderate-genuine tempo. With race fitness on his side and by the looks of it the want to get out to a genuine staying trip, we simply cannot pass up the $12 on offer with online bookmakers about Never Again in the JRA Trophy. JRA Trophy Race 6 – #5 Never Again (10) 8yo Gelding | T: Reece Goodwin | J: Damien Thornton (54kg) $12 with Neds Best Bet at Flemington: Corner Pocket We were with the Lindsey Smith-trained Corner Pocket when he resumed from a break at Pakenham on December 3 and despite finishing second, we are happy to butter up once again. The six-year-old has only ever tasted defeat once when second-up from a spell which was when chasing home Inspirational Girl and Zaaki in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes back in March. He managed to beat subsequent Group 1 winner Mr Brightside on that day and if he runs to that type of form here over 1400m, he simply wins this. From barrier 15 and with Thomas Stockdale sticking on board claiming 2kg, we expect to see Corner Pocket dictate terms throughout, kick away at the clock tower and prove too hard to run down. The $4.40 on offer with online betting sites is an early Christmas present. Best Bet Race 8 – #1 Corner Pocket (15) 6yo Gelding | T: Lindsey Smith | J: Thomas Stockdale (a2) (60kg) $4.40 with Bet365 Next Best at Flemington: Invincible Caviar If you eradicate her effort at Moonee Valley two runs back where she had plenty of excuses, Invincible Caviar would be pushing for a fourth straight victory on Saturday. She was fractious in the barriers on that night at The Valley, pulled up lame and simply had too much against her. She came out and smashed her rivals at Pakenham on December 3 in BM70 company and despite stepping up to BM84 grade, she looks to have plenty of class about her. She may not be Black Caviar 2.0, but she possess a that same will to win her mother had. With plenty of speed in the race, we expect Jamie Kah to track the speed wherever she goes and when asked for an effort, Invincible Caviar has a sharp turn of foot and should simply prove too good for her rivals and is clearly the horse on the way up in this 1200m sprint. Next Best Race 5 – #12 Invincible Caviar (8) 4yo Mare | T: Peter Moody | J: Jamie Kah (54kg) $4 with Palmerbet Best Value at Flemington: All About Eve All About Eve from the Andrew Noblet barn has been nothing short of impressive in her two wins this campaign and we anticipate she will bring up a third straight win on Saturday. The four-year-old mare has given her rivals a start and a convincing beating at Ballarat in both her wins and gets her chance in town on the weekend. She does rise 5kg in the weights but based on what we have seen so far this time in, that should not hinder her chances. She was a smart winner over 1000m first-up on a Good 3, so we know she will handle the firmer deck. With an abundance of early speed in the event the race looks perfectly set up for All About Eve to build through her gears and power over the top of her rivals once again.
