Hong Kong racing heads back to Sha Tin on Sunday afternoon for a competitive 10-race program. We should have perfect conditions for raceday with no rain forecast. The rail moves to the C+3 position, which can sometimes produce some on speed results, so hopefully the track can play fair after the outstanding Sha Tin course was produced last weekend for the Hong Kong International Races. The action is set to get underway at 1pm HKT (4pm AEDT).

Best Bet: Cheery

We head to the middle of the card to find our best bet of the afternoon in the fifth race in the form of the Ricky Yiu-trained Cheery. The run last start in behind Accelerando looks the correct form-line for this Class 4 1600m contest, and Cherry was the clear forgive in behind the eventual winner on November 27 when defeated by 2.3 lengths. He found nothing but backsides on the inside between runners and once clear at the 200m mark let down with an exceptional turn of foot; however, the winner was off and gone by that stage. Drawn in barrier six on Sunday afternoon and getting the appointment of Zac Purton aboard, Cherry should be somewhere midfield with cover, and we can’t imagine this son of Artie Schiller will have too many excuses to notch up his second career win.

Next Best: Accelerando

The horse we referenced in the best bet section is Accelerando and he finds a spot in our best bets as well in the final race on Sunday afternoon. He’s a new horse since becoming a four-year-old and should be looking to make it four wins on the trot had he not found back luck two starts back. His last start performance indicated to us this son of Proisir should be ready to make the jump up to Class 3 after clocking a slick time and margin on November 27. After drawing barrier 11 that day, Zac Purton elected to go back and smoke the pipe in behind his rivals before cruising past his opposition to win comfortably. Purton sticks and drops 4kgs for a great win, and despite this looking a tougher task, we’re happy to side with the trainer-jockey combination.

Next Best Again: Trillion Win

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Trillion Win go back down the 1000m Sha Tin straight, so we’re intrigued to see if he can recapture his best form on Sunday afternoon. He drops back into Class 2 and is first-up after some impressive barrier trials and his best form finds him well in here despite the big task of carrying 61kg. His trial down the straight at Sha Tin on November 22 is what really caught the eye after sitting in behind the speed under a hold for Hugh Bowman he looked to have a lap full of horse under him and looks primed for a first-up tilt here. He’s won down the straight before and his first-up form of five starts for three wins reads outstanding here. It’s a tricky race, but we’d be shocked if Trillion Win didn’t give you a sight in this field. Bowman should just stalk the leaders before finding late to be too strong for his rivals on this occasion.

Best Value: Capitol Legend

Race six on the card looks the most wide-open affair of the afternoon and that’s why we’re happy to take a chance on Capitol Legend. He’s first-up in Hong Kong for the first time after an impressive three-year-old campaign here in Australia, ending with a five-length defeat to Golden Eagle placegetter Fangirl in the 2021 Carbine Club Stakes on October 30. He was unlucky when missing the start on that occasion before flying home and looks a nice type coming to Sha Tin, particularly with multiple trials under his belt. He looks ready to be competitive in Hong Kong racing and in a race with no natural favourite we’re siding with a horse you’ll be getting a big price for with online bookmakers. He’ll get back from barrier 12, and we may be a start or two early for this four-year-old series type, but this 1200m contest is where you’ll be backing him at an each-way quote.
