Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted December 19, 2022 Journalists Share Posted December 19, 2022 Tony Gollan says Golden Boom lost no respect, despite suffering his first loss at Eagle Farm on Saturday.Punters who dived into the short odds about the Tony Gollan-trained Golden Boom were crying all the way to the bar and left sobbing into their beers as they watched a replay of the Gold Edition Plate 1200m at Eagle Farm. Punters were entitled to be unimpressed by jockey Ryan Maloney’s ride on the beaten short-priced $2.15 favourite with bookmakers in a small, but quality field of juveniles, as the Golden Boom bubble burst with a bang. Take nothing away from the winner End Assembly ($9) who took his record to three from three but, Maloney didn’t do punters any favours with his hesitant ride in the small field. The previously unbeaten Golden Boom baulked slightly leaving the barriers and was initially caught wide. Instead of easing back in the small field, Maloney made things tough for the three-year-old by electing not to go forward and travel three-wide. Despite the hard run Golden Boom swept to the lead soon after straightening and looked the winner 100m out before running out of gas in the last 50 metres as End Assembly sailed on by. Gollan described the race as a “train wreck” after Golden Boom’s unbeaten run came to an end and his stablemate Spiritualised, who may have choked down, dropped out a long last. “It is a hard way to have your unbeaten streak ended, he is only a young horse,” Gollan said. “When he didn’t step well, the race panned out far messier than we anticipated. Ryan (Maloney) was thinking about going back, then he goes forward. “It’s just a total train wreck, he is a highly talented galloper and you won’t see a bigger run today, “I’m comfortable that I had the best horse in the race. There are some nice three-year-old races coming up but Gollan indicated he may not push Golden Boom at this stage of his career.
