SANDOWN_4-3_19287951_2024848_20200812170Peter Moody is one of racing's true charactersTop trainer Peter Moody had viewers in stitches during a recent interview.

You have to take your hat off to Peter Moody who surely must be one of the true characters of Australian turf with a wit to match his training ability.

Moody was at his best during an interview on Racing.com when discussing the chances of his plethora of runners around the country last Saturday.

Now we all know Moody climbed to the very top of the world’s racing mountain with his now-retired superstar sprinter Black Caviar (unbeaten in 25 starts) but he is more than just a one-trick pony, even though he often says his wife is a far better horseman than he is.

When Moody was asked if only one of his team racing over the weekend could win, would he like it to be Invincible Caviar, he replied: “I don’t have a sentimental bone in my body. I want Cotel to win, I own and bred him.”

Cotel was placed while Invincible Cavaiar dead-heated but was awarded the race after Blake Shinn was found guilty of breaching the whip rules by stewards.

During the humorous interview, Moody was asked whether he was still getting royalties from his book “Peter Moody”

“Most people only use it to roll smokes or wipe their backside,” joked Moody.

“When I am on my deathbed, I’ve got the book at home where the lawyers took out about 28 chapters, that’s the one want you to want to read.

“And they can sue me for all you like when I am in the ground”.

Asked who he would like to play the part of Peter Moody if a film was ever made about him, he nominated funnyman Shane Jacobson to play the lead role.

And a suggestion that a good title for the movie could be “A Beer and a Bunger” Moody, who enjoys a beer and a smoke, laughed loudly in approval.

He might be rough around the edges and a bit of a knock around but racing needs more characters like Moody.
