First Race 6:15pm AEDT

Visit Ladbrokes

Racing returns to the Cranbourne Turf Club on Friday night with nine races set down for decision to help get us in the Christmas spirit. With perfect conditions forecast for raceday, we expect the current Good 4 track rating to stick throughout, despite storms being forecast for Melbourne’s south-east on Thursday. With the rail coming out 9m for the entire circuit, it may be advantageous to be up on speed, but every horse should get their chance if good enough. The night of racing gets underway at 6:15pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Cranbourne: Immortal Spirit

The Greg Eurell-trained Immortal Spirit has put the writing on the wall at his first two starts this campaign, finishing second both at Moonee Valley and prior to that here at Cranbourne over 1200m. That runner-up effort at Cranbourne was when chasing Peter Moody’s sprinter She Dances. That horse has since come out and smashed her rivals at Flemington last Saturday. Immortal Spirit finished within a length of that runner, and that is clearly the form to follow in this Class 1 affair. Barrier 15 is offset by the Ajaya gelding’s early speed, and if Jamie Mott can have him settled outside the leader or even leading the field up, he should prove hard to beat. The $6 on offer early with online bookmakers looks a great price to load into.

Best Bet

Race 8 – Silks#3 Immortal Spirit (6)

Next Best at Cranbourne: Hoofs Don’t Lie

It is hard to look past the Ben & JD Hayes-trained Hoofs Don’t Lie when he steps out in the opener over 1000m. The three-year-old gelding was gunned down in the shadows of the winning post at Moe last time out, and with the run under the belt and stepping back to the 1000m from the 1100m, he simply looks too hard to chase down this time around. He was first-up at Moe and before heading to the paddock finished four lengths off The Everest winner Giga Kick at Flemington, and that sort of form stands out in a race like this. Daniel Stackhouse will look to use his early speed to get across from barrier eight, and with a well-rated ride, Hoofs Don’t Lie should prove too speedy.

Next Best

Race 1 – silks#2 Hoofs Don’t Lie (8)

3yo Gelding | T: Ben & JD Hayes | J: Daniel Stackhouse (58kg)

Best Value at Cranbourne: Mighty George

Despite being sent to the paddock following a debut fifth on the Pakenham synthetic, we are willing to give the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained Mighty George a push. Despite not setting the world alight in recent jumpouts leading into this first-up run, his debut effort back in July showed he will only appreciate getting out in trip. He steps up to the 1600m here, and with horses like Concentric, Chambers Bay and Bob The Horse expected to make this a genuinely run affair, the race looks perfectly set up for Mighty George to unleash a strong turn of foot and cause somewhat of an upset upon return.

Best Value

Race 4 – Silks#8 Mighty George (3)

3yo Gelding | T: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr | J: Beau Mertens (58kg)

$8.50 with Unibet
