Hong Kong International Races heads back to Happy Valley on Wednesday night for a competitive nine-race program under lights at the city circuit. In some bright news for the evening, Australian jockey Hugh Bowman has been cleared to ride after having a nasty fall on Sunday at Sha Tin.

We’re racing on the C+3 course meaning you’ll likely be wanting to favour on speed runners as the rail can be the hot part of the track on most occasions. We’re in for a firm deck as well so expect the clock to be smashed with the pristine conditions expected for Wednesday night. The first race will get us underway at 6:45pm HKT (9:45pm AEDT).

Best Bet: Rattan Kingdom

We see no reason not to be backing Rattan Kingdom again on Wednesday night after finding him last start when victorious at Happy Valley on November 30. He was outstanding on that occasion when replacement jockey Luke Currie was able to find a perfect position in the one-by-one midrace before storming past his rivals to score in dominant fashion by 1.8 lengths. He draws barrier four again this time and with Zac Purton jumping aboard we should find the exact same run-in transit again before showing the same electric turn-of-foot we saw from this son of Per Incanto in his debut Hong Kong victory. He only gets 2.5kg for his win last start and can stay in Class 4 which he looks too good for moving forward.

Next Best: Medic Elite

We don’t usually like tipping Class 5 horses in Hong Kong but we’re happy to make an exception to the rule here in the first race with Medic Elite finding a best bet tag for Wednesday night. He comes here after a well-deserved win at Happy Valley last time out on December 7 after being very unlucky previously, everything went right on that night as Europeans best Ryan Moore was able to find a perfect spot from barrier six, before kicking clear and putting a 2-length margin on his opposition. He finds a similar task on Wednesday night as he stays at the top of the weights in Class 5 now and after a confidence building win along with Zac Purton taking the reins, we’re keen to be backing this son of Zacinto while he’s in form.

Next Best: California Cible

The penultimate contest holds a very interesting galloper by the name of California Cible and after what we saw first-up he looks to have returned in terrific order. He was back at the track for the first time in a year when running fourth in behind Beauty Tycoon on December 14 and was strong holding ground to the line after sitting outside the leader the entire trip from barrier 10. Despite being beaten by 2.3 lengths, with the amount of time away from racing and only three barrier trials prior to that performance, we think there’s plenty of upside in this lightly raced five-year-old gelding by I Am Invincible. Angus Chung takes the ride again with a much appreciated 4.5kg claim for this young apprentice and should try to lead from a more positive barrier draw before kicking away from his opposition. California Cible should be giving his key rivals something to chase turning for home and we feel you’ll be getting a nice price when markets open.

Best Value: Fun N Glory

Our best value bet of the evening comes in the third race over the 1200m, and we’ve found Fun N Glory for the Chris So yard. After running into Packing Treadmill last start (Who has now won twice since) Fun N Glory was forced back to the barrier trials after playing up behind the stalls at Happy Valley on November 23. His two trials after this mishap showed he’s still going well despite being a pest sometimes and his best form behind the before mentioned Packing Treadmill and prior to that a 3-length defeat to Sweet Encounter make for a horse that looks ready to win in this Class 4 affair. Hugh Bowman hops aboard this son of Akeed Mofeed and we think if he can find some cover midrace Fun N Glory should be very competitive in what looks a moderate Class 4 contest.
